Title: Help on Sprite
Post by: Lionheart on Tue 14/06/2005 15:42:08
(http://www.infamous-adventures.com/fanventures/html/images/Leon%20West.JPG)

Hey guys, first time user on this board, i thought i'd decide to give this a shot and see if any of you can help me with this.

The sprite is something that i am using for an upcoming game and i am having trouble getting the head shape to look right, it keeps looking too square, and getting a good hair style. I wanted like medium long messy blond hair.

When i do eyes and stuff, it just looks like big black eyes, it looks pretty strange.

My Inspiration for this character is Gabriel Knight, so if any of you can figure out a way to help me i would deeply appreciate it.

Also if you see anything else that could be adjusted please let me know.

Thanks :)

well, the picture is FAR too small, also, its probably best to save a file this small as a gif not a jpeg. to make it bigger, when putting the [img] tags in, add in heigh = x width =y, that will make it bigger. Just relace x and y with size values. From what i can tel, you've used an indy sprite and traced over it? this is normally a good start, it gives you something to work off. In future, try and alter the stance a bit as it is VERY recognisable on these forums, at leas to me. Using PSP to zoom in on your sprite, thre isn't much by way of a face, it just seems to be a blur. This may be jpeg artefacts so another good reason for gif saving, All in all a good start.

12 pixels in a 50 pixel space is quite a lot. I like the sprite but i can easily see the FOA influence.

I also deleted two pixels! := And actually added a LOT more than only 12 pixels. Look more carefully at the jacket. Maybe I should have used lighter colors.

Edit: Also I edited the hair.

Khrismuc, the head seems a bit small in that edit.

Hmm, I don't think the head is too small but it's a bit too low.

Not bad, Lionheart. These paintovers shall be helpful for you, but I would improve yet one thing.

It's just a detail, but his left leg seems to be a bit too far away from overall / looks twisted or something. Anyway, it's only one pixel, but... you know. ;)

BTW, great stuff, der.uwe!

Here is a quick version with a bit more shading, fixed arm perspective and a head

I recommend altering this character's pose so he does not look so much like a rip of an indy sprite (which I'm sure it is).

Hope this helps

Certainly you have a lot of work with that GUI sprite... I would recommend you a better paint program, try searching here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=5644. Hmpf...

Like a better background for the GUI instead of black perhaps?

Huh... it seems to me you've just started playing with AGS and the graphic interfaces not long ago. I don't want to be mean, but you know... everyone had already seen scads of Sierra-ripped GUI:s, so try to be a little more original and think up something uncommon, even on the Sierra GUI's layout. Hope you know of what I'm talking.

Good luck anyway! ;)

oh no i understand, i just wanted to see if it would be acceptable for a game or not or if people would be annoyed by it because they are not seperated into individual squares.  i plan on leaving it as it is, perhaps with a few minor changes.

By the way I should have said earlier some of the GUI buttons look a little plain (eg the eye, the hand etc.)

p.s sorry if I sounded kind of evil ^ ^;
