Title: How do you do it!?
Post by: on Sat 06/09/2003 22:08:29
Im looking at your pictures and they are absolutely f****ing (excuse the word) amazing...

I can draw by hand yeah, but on the computer not a chance, so tell me is it all done on the computer or do you some by hand, scan it onto the computer and then add color and detail

Or

Do you do it all free hand then scan it on to use it in a game (I think this unlikely)

Or

Do you do it all on computer?

Could you please also tell me what programmes you use? Thanks!

Hey Max, I'm pretty sure you're not talking about my art, heh...but here's what I think alot of people are doing.  I do this as well.

First, I draw something I like, usually in pencil(art pencil not the #2 thing).

Second, I scan it at a good resolution(I'm not sure what's really a good resolution though, somebody else will help with that).

Then, I do the rest by hand.

Another thing some people do, is take a photo, scan it(or download it for example).  Then, they outline the photo and color it however they like.  There are good tutorials on the AGS homepage.

Oh yeah, the programs I use are Adobe Photoshop 7, ImageReady, & a flatbed scanner. That's about it.  Hope that helps!  ;D

Some of also use digital drafting tablets.  My stuff is done entirely in the computer. I use photoshop for characters and detailing and Painter for doing backgrounds.

I haven't yet made a game, but i am still working on my graphical style. I have been using PC Paintbrush in 320 x 200 resolution and have had really good results. I worked on 2 rooms yesterday and it took me about 12 hours total. Even though my graphics are kind of a mixture between Kings Quest 3 and Kings Quest IV, i think they look pretty good. I know there are way better paint programs out there, but PC Paintbrush works for me. Also, I have tried scanning my drawings in, but they never seem to work right.

Dang Buffalo, that's amazing.  My first background, took me at least a week to finish.  I still think it needs alot more work too.  Ugh, c'est la vie. :)

Now after reading all that I feel stupid...

You all are so damn dedicated to making great games and spend weeks and weeks creating them, I have no patience and the only reason I got AGS is Im in experiment mode where I try anything, but you guys... wow!

Weeks? The average long game could take a year to make. But don't get discouraged... simple games can take far less time. Try entering a few MAGS (monthly AGS) competitions to get an idea of what can be produced in a short time frame.

Hmmm... Maybe, but I seem to have trouble with the simplest of things, for example: I can seem to figure out how you import a character when all the information is right infront of me, and I see picture of Characters, but I don't see is how I get them from that picture into my game, I know I'm saying this in the wrong place so don't bother telling me.
