ok, here are two pictures of my first character animation thing, one zoomed in and one not:
http://jupiter.walagata.com/w/skurai/4.bmp
http://jupiter.walagata.com/w/skurai/4p.bmp
first, i'd like to ask what people think about it? and how might i make it better?
and second, i was wondering if anyone had any tips or anything for drawing the rest of the animation? (the walking poses).
thanks n.n
it could do with a dark outline becuase the light outline makes the character look floresant.
very good though
Yes, try swaping the 2 colours around (make the fill colour the outline and the outline the fill colour) and see what that looks like.
thanks for the suggestions, I really appricate them. But the whole glowing, floresant look was sort of what i was giong for lol but, i'm making another copy now with the colors swapped just to see what it's like. thanks again n.n
ok, i swapped the colors around, heres a link:

better or worse then the old one?
any comments would be appreciated n.n

*her shoes in view 2 has same shoes as view 1, fix that and fix her shoes in view 3 and 4
*also in view 3 you are not suposed to see her face, fix that
*also fix the color between her legs in view 1 and 2, it's really disturbing

man shee looks pale. Is that supose to be like that. If not try making her skin darker.
I like the new colours but if you are going for the 'whole glowing, floresant look' then you should stick to your original

I tried to make the legs look a bit better by removing the double pixels, Im not 100% sure about the leg on the right in the rear view.
EDIT: damnit this isnt the newest version I used, oh well Im sure you get the idea, its only the colours that changed from version to version right?

1 well instead of looking left, she is looking at this direction[img]http://www.geocities.com/jnatann/Images/arrowupleft.png[img]
2 make them even, you know, not like she is standing on her toes, make it:
_____ instead of
__----
3 well, if you see her in view 3, then you have to fix her hair in all the other 3 views
4 i can still see it, make it like hotspot did, some space between her legs, it's like looking up on girls dress *caugh* *caugh*
hmm, I tried to fix that right leg alittle....

Unless you're doing it for the gameboy, I think it could do with more color shades (hair, clothes). Aside from that it looks really good :)
When I saw the girl, I had a sudden urge to color/shade her in. Disregard the edit if you like, as this is just for fun.
wow, some really great responses, i'll try to incorperate them all into some new version which i'll hopefully have done tonight. oh, and yes, she's supose to be pale. and i really like that shaded pic ;D i should give that a try, thanks everybody!
ok, i fixed the legs in view 1 and 2, sorta fixed the shoes, and tried shading her:
http://jupiter.walagata.com/w/skurai/4sha.bmp
http://jupiter.walagata.com/w/skurai/4shab.bmp
here alittle demo type thing i slapped together, ok, all she can do is glide around, but she does it rather well lol:
http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/girltest.zip
ok, first of all, i'm having alot of trouble animating her, anybody know any good tutorials for this sort of thing?Ã, and, i drew another little person (well, it's the same person, i'll explaine below..):
http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/4pandaes.gif
http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/4pandae.gif
for the game i'm thinking of making, the girl with brown hair would be the 'main character' and the girl with blue hair is actualy the same person, but sort of her alter ego, like.. another personality.
Just so you know, there's a text link at the top of your posts called modify, instead of posting 3 times in a row like you just did, you modify your last post. If someone responds to you and you want to respond to them, then you add a new post.
as for animation, maybe check this out

4 times :P
Oh and try and use gif/jpg for the forums. I see that you have done that for your last post and that is good. They take up less space. Also try using the [ img] [ /img] tags (without those spaces, so we can see the picture without having to open a new page.
Comments on the pic: I like how you have progressed. You definately have made huge improvemens, and I love the new sprite but the hands look a little too big, especially on the back view.
^^;; sorry for posting 4 times in a row, i won't do it anymore. And i'll try to fix the hands. but as for right now, heres my first walking animation, it sucks, but shes walking lol
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2.gif)
It looks pretty static, You could add a little bounce (1 pixel) when the both feet are on the ground.
alright, i'll try to add some bouce to her, but for now..:
1x and 4x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/4shaandaeani.gif)(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/4shaandaeani.gif)
and 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2.gif)
The newest animation is getting better!
I would suggest that when one foot is coming up (forward) make the other foot go up as well (just up behind the dress' hem line).Ã, This will create the feeling that as one leg comes forward, the other is going back and should smooth it out some.
Right now, to me, it looks like she's just marching in place.
Also, as has been suggested and acknowledged, a little 1-pixel bounce might finish the deal.
thanks for the suggestion about the feet, i'll work on that right now, as for the 1 pixel bounce, i'm not exaclty sure how i'd do that lol

She's lifting her feet up and down. Try making her legs bend.
^^;; i am trying to make them bend, just having alittle trouble doing so. But hey, woulden't you all wanna play a game where all you do is march in one spot? imagine the excitement!!
EDIT: ok, when i say "alittle trouble" what i really mean is "alot of trouble" lol
EDIT #2: If anyone would like to offer alittle help with animating that so it looks like shes walking instead of marching, i'd really appricate it ;)
ok, i've worked on it, but unfortunatly i still can get it right, heres the latest:
1xÃ, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2v3.GIF)(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2v3.GIF)
Her left foot does to shakes in the air.
you must have added an extra frame somewere.
ok, i chopped out a few frames, heres how it looks now:
1xÃ, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2v4.gif)(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2v4.gif)
That looks better, but you should add a bob of 1 pixel (around the middle of the animation)
that sounds interesting, but what exactly do you mean by a bob?
EDIT: not much, but here are the individual frames for the animation:
1xÃ, Ã, Ã, 2x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/4shaandaeVER2.PNG) (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/4shaandaeVER2.PNG)
and i changed the animation slightly from the last version, see if you can spot the diffrence ;)
1xÃ, Ã, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v5.gif) (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v5.gif)
Here, I did a quickie, but this may help you
(http://members.cox.net/veradin/walkgirl.gif)
and a link to the frames
http://members.cox.net/veradin/walkframes.bmp
The bob he is referring to is the dip the character makes when they step, in the case of the version I did, this occurs at every final step forward (where she moves down by one pixel). Hope this helps.
wow, thats really awsome, thanks!Ã, ;D
EDIT: ok, i put together another animation, heavily based off of ProgZmax's far superior version lol *don't worry, i'll give you full credit for what you've done anywhere i use the spriteÃ, ;)*
there are two, i attempted to shade the skirt on the one on the right:
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6.gif)Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6sha.gif)
now, for bigger ones:
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6.gif)Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6sha.gif)
I should also point out the fact that she now has eye color thanks to ProgZmax lol
Another example of the critics lounge coming through!
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/g2.gif) - First attempt
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6.gif) - Current
Bravo!
The new one is great!
It looks like there might be a tiny little glitch ... the waistline gets a double line of the dark blue outline when her hands are in the back position. (I'm being very nitty about that!)
i took out the double dark blue outline thing in the skirt, heres how it looks, the new one is on the left, the old one is on the right, tell me what you think:
1xÃ, 6xÃ, (new) Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, 1xÃ, 6x (old)
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g3sdpe.gif) (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g3sdpe.gif)Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6sha.gif)Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v6sha.gif)
better or worse?
I think it looks much better!
It looks like her hips are swaying when she walks.Ã, Which is how women walk (more so then men I mean ... nothing sexist)
That walk cycle looks remarkably life-like considering how small it is.
Great job (to all who helped!)
I love how far this sprite has come and I think it can go a little farther.
I made an edit on the feet
(http://sylpher.com/kafka/junk/edits/skuraiedit.gif)(http://sylpher.com/kafka/junk/edits/skuraiedit.gif)
The feet ping ponged back and forth reusing frames so she kinda looked like she was hopping from one foot to the other, I also kept her feet visible in every frame though they get very tiny
thanks for the feet edit MrColossal, it's awesomeÃ, ;D
oh, and i just finished the back animation *also heavily based on ProgZmax's edit*, hows it look?
1xÃ, Ã, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2back.gif)Ã, Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2back.gif)
Looks like she's dancing.
hm, your right Krazy, i'll have to try to fix that..
EDIT: on a completly unrelated note, welcome to page 3Ã, ;D
EDIT #2: Is this any better?
1xÃ, Ã, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2backv2.gif)Ã, Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2backv2.gif)
EDIT #3: changed it a bit:
1xÃ, Ã, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v7p1.GIF)Ã, Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2v7p1.GIF)
I don't see much difference. PLEASE say what you change every time you make one.
well, i changed the feet to try to make it look like she was walking and not dancing or hopping, i changed one of the arms because it was kind of messed up, and her um.. bottom is a little more defined lol
I think its the arms, only one should go foward at a time but it seems like both do, maybe you could change it so its one at a time?
i'll see what i can do, but right now, to me at least, it looks like one arm goes forward, and the other comes back. but yes, either way, the arms could be better.
EDIT: ok, i tried to fix the arm problem...
1xÃ, Ã, 6x
(http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2backv5.gif)Ã, Ã, (http://www.geocities.com/darkfalz_83/skurai/g2backv5.gif)
It looks like she's running, as opposed to walking in the front view. This is because of having both the feet up in the air at the same time. It's not bad, it's just you want to keep consistent with the other view.
Good work with the sprite, and animation. It's coming along nicely.
sorry i haven't posted in awhile, kind of a long story, but i'll just make it short and say i'm using only Linux now lol anyways, i still have all the work i did on the sprite (i think) if not 90% of it's online anyways lol after i get sorted out i'll try to fix the back view problem.
