Hi, I'm making a game (Space Ranger), and would like some crit on the main character...

X2

His name is Sebastian Quimm, a Detective in the Space Ranger Corp.

(any paint overs very welcomeÃ,  := )

Jon

Nice work. Although I think that the nose and mouth are hard to see(In my opinion) - maybe a darker shade, and also his right foot seems strange, as the back of the foot should be a curve (although, if he is a space ranger, these could be rocket boots...).

Big Nerd

As Jon said, I too think the outline of the skin should be darker. I also think you should try to make his left shoulder a bit more 'roundy' if you now what I mean. Except from that it looks preety good. Keep up the good work.

EagerMind

I agree with Jon and Big Nerd. Also his hands are a different color than his face. Does he have gloves on? And you may want to consider changing his last name.

Revan

Hi, did an edit... What do you think now..? Also, Im having real trouble making walk cycles for him.... lol I actualy alreay knew that about his last name... just didn't make the link lolÃ,  ;D... and he is wearing gloves.

Big Nerd

It's very good. If you are having trouble on walkcycles go to http://kafkaskoffee.com/tutorials.shtml

I don't really see much difference between the orginal and your edit.... What did you change???
Thewalrus

Goo, goo, ga, joob!!!

"Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come!"

Sean

The hands hang more natural in the edit, much nicer.

Looking good so far, is his costume a one piece thing like a spandex costume?

If not, I'd say make an obvious "disconnect" somewhere. If It's based on the StarTrek template of clothing that is.

At the moment, it looks like the sort of costume you'd step into and then zip up. That sort of clothing, is better suited to "away" missions and the likes. His body and legs seem to all be "one" blob. If that makes any sense, at all :P

Maybe a little more definition, either through splitting the costume pieces or  a little undertone shading.

Like I said though, looking good.. keep it up :)

Ok, I tried a paintover for this one, too.

Changed the hair a little, put more detail into his face and added some folds to his overall. I also raised his shoulders a little.

How do you like it?

I've given a million ladies a million footmassages - and they all meant something! - Vincent Vega

Revan

That looks really good, can I have your permission to use it? ALso I have tried countless times to create a walk cycle but I just cant get a decent looking one. Is there any shnace one of you out there could create a walk cycle for this character for me..? ???

markbilly

To do walk cycles, keep trying! They are really hard to get right. Also, don't be afraid to copy and paste bits and pieces from the original sprite to create the different positions. So long as the gaps are filled, etc it'll look fine. You don't have to redraw the sprite over each frame.

Also, the website suggested by Big Nerd is very good, but the walkcycles tend to be a little extreme. You could also try capturing your favourite game and breaking it down into say 10 frames, using this as a guide. There are lots of ways to do it.

I don't know, I still can't see the nose or mouth very well, even with all the paintovers. Maybe even darker lines for the nose and mouth only.
