Title: Need some C & C on my first attempt at a bg (UPDATED)
Post by: KTaco2008 on Fri 09/01/2009 15:21:23
Hi all,

This is my first attempt at creating any type of BG.  I was wondering if I could get some C & C on it.  Please note that I haven't even thought about the lighting aspect of it yet. Also something happened when I converted the drawing to JPG, so there are some funny lines going through the walls...please ignore.

Thanks

UPDATE:
So I made a better effort on the one point perspective.  There is a fair bit let do/modify, but I think its much better than my previous attempt. Please give some C & C.

* Perspective is totally wrong. While you might even get away with the desk, the file cabinet signs this comment, it's wronger than wrong.
Get it fixed before anything else.

* You chose a bit too saturated colors. I hope you don't intend to leave everything single-color. Anyway, I'd tone a bit down on saturation.

* Did you use reference stickman/character while making this room? The sizes of everything seem to be a bit off. I mean, imagine character using the door and then same character attempting to sit by desk. I suggest to take good, long look at this matter.

* Door is missing a handle, as do file drawers

* I like the amount of detail on desk and door. Detail other things so well too!

* Removing half of ceiling, half of right wall and about 1/5-1/4 of the floor would be a nice idea and reduce feeling of emptiness.

* Do not use JPG. JPG is for photos.

Use PNG. PNG is for pretty pixels.

* Light edge on desk is a smart move. Shadows on desk turned out well too.
Even for a beginner, you seem to have natural talent. Practice more and perfect your skills!

I don't think the sizes are significantly wrong. The desk almost reaches half od the door. I just looked at my door here and it's easily three times larger than my desk. In fact I think the sizes are almost perfect.

But agreed to the other points and yes, the colors are horrible. I'd become crazy sitting in a room which walls in these green and blue colors. The grey ceiling is very weird too.

Thanks InCreator & Matti

InCreator:

* Yeah the file cabinet seemed weird to me when I was drawing it (thus no further detail was done to it)...I'll go  rework it.

* I made the door a little bigger as well

* Agreed, the colors are horrible, and I don't intend to leave everything single-color, I just wanted to get some C&C before I went to crazy on color and detail.

Thanks again,
I will post and updated drawing for further C&C a little later one

well I liked the room overall. But the colors are weird and the dustbin feels different than the rest of the room. deal with it's borders like you did for everything else in the room, everything else is already said.

=)

Look into one point perspective; except for the file cabinet, the perspective isn't that terribly off, but still the background would profit a lot from correct perspective.

Not bad, but I would suggest that you make the walls and the door higher, because right now it's too much ceiling visible, and put something on the right side of the room, maby something in the foreground.
Then you could fill the room up with small objects, books, a chair, a lamp, a carpet, anything to make it less empty and more interesting to look at.

The color theme of this room is way better.
at some places the lines look a bit jaggy that should be fixed.

Big improvement on the original version, but that window is HUUUUUGE! :P

seconded.

2 things that still stick out:

1) The lowest pixels on door frame make it look round. Yet, upper part is strictly rectangular. This kind of doesn't leave harmonic look - add those two pixels to make bottom straight too.

2) I know that it's still unfinished, but It's time to consider additional light sources and cut down on abient light. Right now, it leaves old-hentai-gamesque unrealistic all-lit feeling.

This looks pretty nice, but where is all the light coming from?  The shadows right now aren't quite consistent.

I was going to suggest adding more furniture and a plant next to that giant window, but since this is a work in progress, you probably already had that in mind.

I like the style and the level of detail. It looks so CLEAN!!!

If I hadn't read the comments posted before me, I'd have said that it was perfect.

Keep at it!

It's looking very clean. Please add a light bulb, light fitting, fan with a light fitting or something on the ceiling. And better add a light switch while you are at it. Give the background more depth using a shadow layer. The ceiling could use some coving as well. And is that a window or Jail bar's. I don't see any glass.
