Title: Need some Smurf on this ...
Post by: Darth Mandarb on Sun 02/11/2003 22:35:49
So ... as I usually do, I sat down to work on something.  It turned into something else completely.

I kind of dig it ... can anybody see anything to improve upon?

Hit me!

His outside arm looks a bit small, maybe make it move out more. Maybe also add a bounce to his hat and head. Other then that it looks good.

Darth, I think you have become the king of walk-cycles.

That is an awesome walk cycle. I love the hat wobble. Maybe an ear or nose wobble would be cool too, but they might ruin it.
One thing that annoys me is that on one of the frames it looks as though the back (grey) leg comes in front a bit. Like the white one gets a bit too small or something, I don't know.

ah yes this is true auhsor nicely spotted

i do believe what you have a problem with is that the feet walk on the same plane when maybe it would be better if the back leg actually stepped 1 or 2 pixels above the front foor

also on the swing back it looks like the front arm stutters, like you may have a frame in the wrong place or tried to do something tricky that didn't show up well

either way go go brainy smurf

Yes, the second version is an improvment, with the "motion" hut... But there is something strange in the right arm, specially when it´s almost completely back. The two final frames are irregular, I suposse that´s what Mr. Col was talking about.

I love it, anyway...  Tintín and the Surfs were two of my favourite characters. The little I know to drae now is thanks to my early attempts to copythe  Hergé´s or Smurfs´comics. You can imagine the feelings that seeing smurfs again bring to me.  :)

I also think his left leg is a bit too grey, especially when most forward

it looks odd :)

for the rest

great animation!

i like it, but I think the left foot should be about a pixel more "up", because now it looks like he's walking on a thin line...
I love the rest

- I raised the back leg up a pixel on most frames (Aushor, MrColossal, and Oscar)
- I lightened up the back leg just a little ... (N3TGraph)
- I changed the right arm frames where the arm is back (Farlander and MrColossal)
- I increased the size of the front leg on a few frames (Aushor)

Aushor - I thought about adding in a little more motion (ear wobble) but I don't believe even their hats wobbled in the cartoon?  So I didn't want to go too far overboard with changes!  But it's a good idea and I might eventually do it!

Quintaros - Thanks!  Practice practice practice!!  I can almost completely do a walk-cycle now without looking at my reference chart!

Thanks everybody!  You've helped make this better and better!!

I don't really know if I'd love a smurf game, but maybe you can find other ways to use that splendid work

Just one point of criticism: I think his left arm moves back too fast. His left hand moves behind his belly and just a fraction later his left elbow appears behind his back. Maybe you should delay that for a frame (or two).

Otherwise, great animation. My only wish is that you took another character. I hated those little blue pests way back then and still do... :)

Hey, that's pretty good.

Now, you need to have a giant hammer come down on top of him, and have a little blue splat mark come out from underneath the head of the hammer!  j/k... ;D
