Title: Sierra-Like Sprite, C&C, please?
Post by: Blackthorne on Fri 30/04/2004 01:58:35
Hey all.  I've been busy working on not only backgrounds, but sprites as well.

Anyway, here's the latest.  I made it from scratch in MsPaint.  I'm going for an early 90's Sierra Style.

Comments?  Paintovers? Etc.  Please let me know...

good job.

my only thought is that perhaps his arms are hanging too much to the left side of the screen?

Unless he's reaching down for something, his arms would hang more around his side.

And his ankles seem extremely thin - almost disproportionate to the rest of his body.

Apart from that, it looks really good. I can see it working well sierra-style.

I would suggest maybe using another shade of grey (in between the grey colour you've already used and the black) to shade a bit more. Other than that, it looks pretty good. :)

That's not bad at all!
The black clothes look a bit messy, but it depends on who the character is, and what he's for. Fill us in on the details and maybe someone can help you more...
eg, are the eyes supposed to be red? does he need more facial features or props?

For the scaled up image, I recommend using

with xx and yy multiples of the original size, so that the pixels are all the same size. For example:

Steve,

Thanks for the info!  Well, he is a rough and tumble guy, so his clothes are kinda rumpled.  I drew a new version, which I have to upload soon - where he's holding a sword.  I redefined some of the facial features, and softened the red eyes a bit.

He was sailing on a ship, and he just came into port.
