Title: Sketch (updated-last post)
Post by: Igor on Wed 29/06/2005 21:27:47
Here's a quick little sketch i whiped together.. it's for some virtual-singer project. I'm not quite sure if i like it.. what do you think? I'm interested in your opinion of character-design itself not technique (as it doesn't represent the final look anyway)..

I've always loved your use of preportion, but I think that her waist is too thin and her hips are really far back.  Sort of looks like she is a centar or something.

notice is that it look like if she only got one boob... :P

That's a wonderful style you have here, i really like it!
I think her face is what i like most.
Legs seem a bit strange to me, but that's your style i guess.

Marvelous. Simply said. Is that tablet-made or are the borders drawn by hand?

Thank you everyone for C&C. Appreciate it!

Evil- haha, yeah.. guess i really went overboard with body twisting.. :)

Ildu- thanks, it's hand drawn.

She reminds me of Meg from Disney's Hercules (which is a good thing ... I love the style of that movie!) so in that regard, I don't mind the extra-thin waist area.

I guess it would depend on what the client wants.

The only thing that jumped out at me were the fore-arms ... they might be [just] a tad on the large side.  Though it might be the shading, they appear to be larger than her bicep area.

Other than that, bang up job as always!

If it's for a virtual singer project, I can't help but thing she'd have a little more style and glitz.  The face fits perfectly, but the dress being a 1-color summer-type thing doesn't seem to fit the bill.  With it's snugness around the torso, and her pose, it almost seems more ballerina-esque.  With a more, hmm..  projective stance it might give for the impression of a performer.  I also can't help but imagine that the lined around around her waist is a placeholder for a really friggin' big leather belt.

Thank you all!
About singer appearance.. the project is kind of similar to Gorillaz.. and there's a back-story.. whole thing is placed into some fairty tale world.. that's why she isn't dressed much like your usual singer.

Here's a new quick design.. which do you prefere?

I love the sexiness of the origional character, I just thought her back looked weird. :p

If you're going for young, give the first one some freckels. The first is so much better.

The first! The second looks like Goldy-locks or Little Yellow no-more-Riding hood. But perhaps that is what you want?

The second one, because I think she has better arms and her back isn't too exaggerated. And I also love the warm colours. :)

Interesting to hear most of you prefere the first one :)
Like Erwin i like the second more.. probably not as "sexy" in conventional sense as the first one.. but i think the design is more interesting&appealing. Could be wrong though.
Thanks for opinions so far (keep 'em coming! :)), i'll update this thread as i progress with design!

It wouldn't hurt if they had bigger buubs. *slapped* :P
But seriously, they are really great. Keep it up!

I prefer the second image because it fits with the world you've described. Fairy tale heroines tend not to be sultry and sexy like the first image (unless I've been totally misreading Little Red Riging Hood).

The second girl looks slightly lost, which is more interesting and more suited to a fairy-tale world. I also think her clothes are nicer, she looks like she's been wrapped in orange bandages - but in a good way.

I think what makes the first "sexier", aswell as more appealing, is the wide face. Maybe shorten up the second girls body and shorten the head aswell.

I do too! Huge breasts are too much for me to handle (no pun intended but it's true).

I like the first one a lot ... but I much prefer the second one.

As Ali pointed out, it fits much more with the description you provided.
