Ok, I'm starting on a new game and have some backgrounds I did from quite a while back for a different project, they are low-res but hoping I can use them in my new game!

Sweet background! This is really intense stuff
What medium do you work in? Looks like Acrylic or maybe Guache.

Shit dude, thats a comercial game right there. Amazing work my friend... :)
Wow, those are very good. They look good enough to eat. :)
BuffaloGamer heads back to the drawing board.
Wow, these BGs are better then sex! :-\ actualy..I'm not sure...But these are great anyways! :D
YAY really nice bgs! But are they really "low" res? ;)
Wow wow wow. You MUST keep going.
And, especially on the last two, they really remind me of my "How to draw Looney Tunes, and their backgrounds" book I have.
Masterpieces in the making.
...What can I say? Amazing. God damn amazing.
Promise you'll give us more of this stuff, man - And um... Perhaps a tutorial?
That second picture reminded me about Beneath A Steel Sky, btw - Cool!
yeah. they are very good. I'll print them out and eat them right away. cause they look good... and I wanna eat them... I don't know why... it's just my thing
excellent!
very VERY impressive!
you pick great camera angles!
choose lovely colors!
everything about it is just great!
I'll leave it to the real experts to make some comment about it :)
Not only are they great as everyone said, but if all of them are for the same game, it promises to be an amazing game, compelling story included ...
Make a great and long game!!!!
Edit: I'm still stunned - when is your game coming out, how's gonna be, what's it called? tell us more!
:o Wow wow wow! That is stunning! And I've only seen the first pic!
...
They are all stunning! I can feel that this game will be great. I second ratracer's motion for more info on the game :) Where's the drool icon when I need it?
The only thing I can nitpick about is what that beige thing in the second pic is. Err, what is it?
Defiently write a tutorial! If you did these completely 3d looking backgrounds just drawing (which you did), I.. I.. wow.
;)
!!! :o
Those are amazing, man! I like the third and the last one best.
I don't know if there's much to criticize but there are some things that bother or just catch my attention a bit. One thing is the lack of detail at some places, like on the roof and the chairs on the right, in the second picture. It's good to have empty space in a crowded image like that but I don't know if it's just because of the little amoutn of colors but the texture on the roof is like it was a whole different style. Somehow it makes the image look a tad computer-generated and takes something out of the atmosphere. It can be seen in various degrees in all of the images. Perhaps you could make the game 16-bit or something? Unless the game speed would become an issue...
A bit of the computer-messed-it-up kind of thing can also be seen in the fifth image. It looks as if it lacked detail but I think it's actually just because it got blurred during the scanning or resizing.
So, basically what I'm saying is: you rock, the computer does not. Keep it up, man! That totally is commercial quality!
:o :o :o
:P
;D
Very nice backgrounds! They are better than the backgrounds in a lot of commercial adventure games!
very nice backgrounds. I like the 'embedded' comic book style.
I liked the proportions and the colors especially.
It seems like you did ALL the job on paper (sketch plus colorising) and you just scanned them.Am i right?
Excellent Backgrounds, best work ive seen in a while. They all have a great atmosphere, especially the street with the car.
Good work :)
Ok sorry guys been a tad busy. Anyway, thank you for all the comments on my backgrounds. I didn't actually produce them FOR an adventure game but I thought since there is this fab program to make them, then why not!
Anyway, some more pics to drool over hehe.
Not all of the pictures are handrawn, I used Photoshop to touch up some of the images and add some effects.

Game is still in it's planning stages, I will keep you updated!
have you drawn or are you working on any characters? I would like to see what you have in store for us. :)
With scenes like these, I think a lucasarts style character would fit right...
will you use proper resolutions one day? :) 320 200 (240), 640 400 (480) or 800 600 :)
More excellent backgrounds.......MAKE A GAME :)
Custard, I'd presume he'll either shrink it or cut it down or maybe both... either way, still cool. 8)

Like I said. I created these projects for an entirely different project a few years ago! They were not meant for games! I have just decided to adapt them for a new game I am making!
yes, but you coulda gone the lazy route, added black borders, with the image in the centre ;)

if by different project you mean The Spiderman Cartoon Maker, cause that's what these backgrounds are from
if you made them for for that program than nice going
if not then shame shame we know your name
eric
OHH SNAP! Seriously that's really lame claiming credit for those screens if you didn't draw them.
Hmm, I thought I recognised those. Shame on you my boy.
MY SPIDER SENSE ARES TINGLING!!!!11!!1
This cannot be good, if those aren't your own original works. :o
I'm sure you'd have trouble making a game using these backgrounds. Using the works of "real" artists without their permission is not only unethical but illegal, since you do not own the rights to someone else's intellectual property.
I'm actually shocked that someone on this forum would shamelessly post another's work without AT LEAST giving credit. (I'm aware you didn't actually SAY you made them, but you did mention Photoshop, so we all assumed...)
Make your own game, draw your own art, and compose your own music (that's the whole point behind an amateur game). Until you do that, you disrespect not only the people who drew those backgrounds, but also the people in this community.

Hey man, that's really not nice. You said that YOU made the backgrounds (even 3 times) - I quoted you, so you can't deny it (unless you'd edit your messages, but that would be even lamer than posting someone's else hard work as YOURS!). :-\ :'( :-[
Anyway, I'm not familiar with The Spiderman Cartton Maker, but if those backgrounds are really taken from there - I'm sorry to say, but you have to be ashamed of yourself! You got amazing comments from the people in this community, and that's for something you haven't even spend one minute of your time to create? That's a new low, my friend. >:( >:( >:(
I have to say it again, I'm not really sure that you took those BG's from someone else, so if you actucally made them yourself, then I owe you an apology.
QuoteAnyway, some more pics to drool over hehe.
why the hehe when posting artwork?

Well, that happened before...
So this would not be the last time.

Oh, it's happened before, eh? So are you trying to insinuate that this ISN'T one of my drawings?

Since everyone is quoting:
Quotesome backgrounds I did from quite a while back for a different project,
I did some additional art for Spiderman the Cartoon Maker, INCLUDING, those artworks. I have contacted Knowlege Adventures and I am awaiting permission to use MY art in an adventure game!
So guys, PLEASE don't jump to conclusions, not everyone is low enough to steal!
Nice to see what a great community it is here! :(
Brian
EDIT: And I just thought I would point out that not all the backgrounds in the Cartoon Maker were made by me! All the ones I have posted however, WERE done by me - (and a little bit of Photoshop). Plus I have had to use the images from my CD of Spiderman, even though I have the original drawings I made I do not have a scanner! However, I am getting one soon and will be posting some more of my art which was NOT used in Spiderman.
Thats cool. Those pictures are awesome. So it seems you are a professional artist. Thats heaps cool. Although i don't know anything about that spiderman thingy, it seems that they did get good artists. Hopefully the game can be just as good as the art. There are too many games out there with awesome art and not so good story etc.
Quote from: TheBolian on Thu 18/09/2003 13:15:46So guys, PLEASE don't jump to conclusions, not everyone is low enough to steal!
But sadly some people are. This is obviously a big misunderstanding. Some people jumped the gun a bit here before you had a chance to correct the misunderstanding. On the other hand; it would have been helpful if you had informed people that your work had already been published, and where thus preventing any misunderstandings. In addition you are a first time poster.
But look at it from the positive side. The reason people was pissed off was because they wanted to think you were for real.
Hope this doesn't put you off posting here.
I haven't been here long myself, but people on the forum are generally nice (even the people with attitudes ;) )
Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
i'm sorry for assuming they weren't yours. I guess i wasn't thinking. But about my first comment, they really are great. I don't have the time or patience to do art like that. :)
shawn
I owe you a big apology, pal.
Just forget my last post... ;)
About the backgrounds, they are totally awesome, and no doubt the best BG's seen in those forums ever. You have a lot of talent, and I hope you can create more backgrounds in that style. It's quite breathtaking.
Again, I'm sorry...
Well I really should have told you that I used that art for the Cartoon Maker!
Just to add my opinion and to disagree with fidodido: although your art is truly great, as everyone said, I won't say that it's the best ever seen here...! I'll say it's second to none, but there are some that are on par with yours...
In any case, your game will be a treat artwise!
It is FAR from the best seen here I TOTALLY agree!Plus, sorry guys I have had to take the pics down, my friend needs his webspace back :(
Aww, I didn't get a chance to save them (I ussually like to save really good artwork to look at it in the future, or to study the style as an example to acheive ;)). May I reccomend www.freewebs.com for hosting images, these and future ones :) I would love to see more of your art.
Hey, how about getting back on topic a little? If there's one thing I remember about the pics before they were taken down it's the quality and the diffusion. I would recommend either using the originals and re-doing them or re-touching the ones there. There's an awful lot of diffusion, apparently from a 16-bit to 8-bit color reduction. It would also use significantly less webspace if you made them GIFs after retouching them.
Well I could post em back up using freewebs you just mentioned but I'm gonna wait until I get a scanner and scan them in better quality and a much larger size which KA didn't want for the Cartoon Maker!

Nice to see what a great community it is here!
what do you want people to do? the art is from the spiderman cartoon maker, you say you made it but that's only after it was found out that these were made for that program.
why not mention first that that is where they were from and avoid this whole thing? i don't see how it's the community's fault totally
but as for the art, i think a few of them look to early 90's to me especially the bedroom, i'd much rather see the art you can do now as yourself, not an employee for Knowledge Adventure.
I was able to see pics before they went off line- absolutely fantastic backgrounds! If you'll need some web space for pics in future i'll be glad to host them for you.
Quotei'd much rather see the art you can do now as yourself, not an employee for Knowledge Adventure
I wasn't exactly under the employment of Knowledge Adventure, but that doesn't really matter. I have done lots of art recently, all of which will be posted when I get my scanner!
I'm going to be offline for a few days due to personal issues, should have my scanner in a week or two!
Hehehe I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this guy is bullshitting. Of course, I could be wrong, but it's not like I care .-.
Well, we'll see when he's going to scan and post his images (or not).
Not much point in further discussion, me thinks :P
--Erwin
Sigh... I couldn't see them :-\ :'(
Its okay, you can buy or download the game, and rip out the graphics and post them here and claim you did them also.
btw, what a perfect bust. hes not back, and i dont think it was because our attitude. if in somehow this guy was legit, then bravo on the art, but damn, i cant believe him now.
Good call, Scummbuddy.
Why draw when you can copy? Why copy when you can trace? Why trace when you can Xerox? Why Xerox when you can cut and paste? Why cut and paste when you can buy some software and take screen captures....
heheheh
