I feel like a jerk for crit'ing this.

First of all, the char is beautiful....wow. jeez., but I get a sense of 3d with him, but the edge of the castle (near the trees) and the trees themselves, feel flat.that might not be a bad thing. its almost got a claymation thing going, where they can use flat backgrounds, but in this case, i think it would look better if it was consistinly 3d.

the colors chosen were superb. i think ill use this as my desktop image.

I feel strange giving crits to the supremme artist that Mr. Colossal is ( :)) But I suppose that as a great artist you'd like to thing all we think about your work...

It is supperb, but the "bricks" look strange to me... I'm quite used to use reference for my paintings and the structure of the rocks in the window looks strange, as it is so much complicated in real life... But this critic is made by a person who was passed with excellent notes the subject of history of the art[/boasting], and probably the rest of the people  will just be amazed by the great composition and the excellent choose of colours. :)

(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Ericsedit.gif)A really quick edit, and not accurate, but I just wanted to show that the structure on the windows still has possibilities to be improved, but it's the decission of the artist to determine if that could disstract the attention of the real focus of the painting...

Farlander has a point: windows always need some kind of lintel or arch structure to stop the tops falling in.

Also, what is it with you and people hanging out of windows, Eric?

Finally, your greatest fault is not doing all my artwork for me. I wish I could draw half as well as you.

He has a bad "Michael Jackson" complex.

First of all- this is a great illustration and i think it's perfect in what it does... so, i don't think it really needs any changes.

But, *if* i'd change something, it would be adding just a little bit more depth to castle.
Here's a quick edit i did in Flash:
http://users.volja.net/igorsi1/edit.jpg

I don't know- the image lose a bit of color simplicity this way, so it might not be what you want.

castle is hand made most likely and the left edge of the tower seems too straight and looks out of place with the wonky trees etc...

danke for the responses:

The Bricks: Considering the entire drawing was started as a doodle and I didn't really plan any of it out the window makes sense. I realize how it should look but I just didn't care too much because 1: Just messing about 2: The character has a large square head and a tiny tiny mouth, realism wasn't really what I was going for. Hehe

The Trees: when I was showing this to other people they said the trees were awesome and I quote "I want to lick them." I didn't think they were that great, I liked them in this older version better:

http://sylpher.com/kafka/junk/scientistwindow1.jpg [note how TERRIBLE the bricks look there!]

The Left Side: There was also a problem with this side, it just got to a point where I didn't know what to do and I had tried a few things but none of them were working so I just said "Oh vell!" and moved on.

Igor: As you can see from the link I posted above [go through them all, from 1 to 7 and see how it changed from comments] the bricks went through quite a lot. I tried a few times to add more depth and eventually... again... after so long you just want to finish a painting and so I did.

SSH: Do I draw people hanging out of windows a lot? I hadn't realized. I suppose it's my subconscious love of Defenestration.

hehe the sad thing is SSH, the tower in Time Out is the same tower from a comic I drew involving a scientist living in a tower who creates a robot to build another tower for God next door to his tower. Just recently I started rewritting the comic and I changed the scientist to look like this guy...

So in reality, he is hanging out of the same window that Dr. Ohio Mercurious IX is hanging out of...

I'm a one trick pony

I don't have it in me to get all into the littel details, but I'll ya this:

It's pleasing to look at and cool as shit, keep it up man. I especially like the wooden windowsill, it just looks cool...

Everything is very soothing and smooth. Is the character depicted how it will appear in the game?

The only critiques I could give would just be a difference of style between yourself and myself. With that in mind, I think that the drawing is very complete and is more than adequate as is.

Normally, I wouldn't post unless I had some actual critiques, but this really polished and nice.

That character really freaks me out. I think i had a nightmare about a similar-looking dude once.

Great pic btw.

Yes, because eric is so good, it's like he's sucking up all the talent and the rest of use are screwed....

Nope, thats the wrong way to look at it man, for me, Eric was one of my inspirations to improve my art, and now (withth e help of his handy dandy tutorials and practice!) I feel I am a much better artist. Keep drawing dude...

This picture is great, very pleasing on the eyes. I love the shirt w/ all its folds, and the color choices.

My only issue is the same one that has already been mentioned. (The wall looks a little flat.) But this hardly detracts from the great image.

Especially the character is nice - the bricks and the background looks a bit too naivistic and cliché.
The character has a really original touch, though...also, the shirt is technically almost perfect, imo

Im sorry guys, but with all your edits, the original's still better..

There's only one thing this picture needs.
If you have it in separate layers, this will be a cinch!

All you have to do is add a slide dark shade to the left edge of the tower, because it does look a little flat against the background..

Add the archway if you'd like, but that's all it really needs :)

of all the comments here I do believe Las' is the most heartfelt...

for the image i made before this here (http://sylpher.com/kafka/field.htm) I tried to use as few layers as possible, the guy is one layer, the background is one layer, the grass... is a series of layers because i was experimenting... but the entire thing was only like 8 layers. unlike my OTHER painting (http://sylpher.com/kafka/redline.htm) which was many many layers.

So I was trying to keep things simple again with only a few layers... I ended up using over 40... I had to use folders to keep track of them all... but it's a learning process and looking back over the other paintings I think I've learned a lot. I may try and redo the field one again now that I know more...

either way, thank you for the comments and what I failed to achieve in this image hopefully I'll get spot on in the next
