I was really bored today so i drew a few cartoonish characters ( took me about 30 minutes ) I liked the outcome and i want to know what others think.

:o Wow!
Its so.... Wow!
30 mins! holy crap, it would take me that long just to draw one character, if even that. nice work.
Those characters are sweet
love the shading!
Gumby really let himself go..
Pretty Awesome, love your style, but I think the explore's shoulders are a bit too hefty and his hands too small (same with that really sexy guy with the chest hair.
On another note, The eyes on your character's make them look like wax figures.
Nothing more to comment on, awesome drawings.
these are great :o
Really nice character, I couldnt make one of em in 30 days, never mind 30 minutes!
I guess all has been said. Great drawing, superb shading, wow. What else could one add? Maybe one thing: 30 minutes? Come ooon.
Oh, there´s one thing: the blue coloured eyes of the doo seem a bit odd to me. I think cartoon characters are better off white-eyed.
Great work. I´m jealous.
Excellent stuff. If you can whip out this quality quickly then the animations should be pretty impressive. The only thing that bugs me are some of the colors. The skin of the muscled guy is a bit too hi-saturation and tends to make his torso a rather bright blob at first glance. As for the eyes, I think you're just not making them emotive enough. Let them hide a bit under eyelids or look shiftily to the side and they'll be a lot more convincing. It's also nice to see that you've got imagination so that the character types are very varied.
thx all..
all of these were supposed to be aliens of diffrent races ( the explorer being human ) so thats where some strange colours ( skin 'n eyes ) come from.
earlwood : yeah i dont really like the hands of these characters, if i'm going to make a game with them i'm gonna correct them, also i think that the explorer type guys arms are to short. ( but i don't see anything wrong with his shoulders ).
Another thing that caught my attention were the teeth of the purple-slug-type-guy(?)... they seem kinnda flat to me.
Now i wonder how i'll be able to animate them :) perhaps i'll do it today if i have some time. (animations could really give them some character)
thx for all the replies and keep them comming. :P
Oh.. and Herr Stein it really was something about thirty minutes.
Beutiful!
That green alien looks like Jab (http://www.umop.com/flash.htm)
My favourite is the second guy along. Everything about him just seems to..sit really well.
here's another image

the main thing that i was trying out here was the gui ( is it good ? ) and how it looks all together. ( note : the background is just for testing purpose hence it's crappy quality )
This GUI seems quite simple to use, but maybe a menu button would be handy.
The green lines and black background reminds me somehow of the Space Quest 6 GUI.
Nice and futuristic :)
If this background's just a quick-made, then I'm expecting to see some beautiful backgrounds comming from you in the future ;)
Can you make me some characters?
Could you make me a character?

Could you make me a character?
NO! I asked first!
I only want one. So ill be first ;D
...Or make one yourself, wich should be easier in the length, since it's gonna be animated too.
hey.. no problem :) but i won't animate them for you, sorry but i'm not to good at animating. so if you guys want some characters just write what you want in more detail
here's another one... it is supposed to be the main bad character of the game... i was trying to make him look like a mafia boss toad alien.
oh... by the way... anyone can give me tips on animating them ?
That's another really nice looking character. He has a lot of... ummm... character to him. ;)
My character artist draws in a similar style ( example (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=11361) ) and he also has trouble animating...
Try reading this: Tutorial (http://www.sylpher.com/kafka/tutorials/animation1.htm)
I hope that helps. Otherwise, you could make your entire game, show off all the details, and hope someone would be kind enough to animate all of your characters. :o
ok.. this is supposed to be the main character :
he's a space pirate ( some of you may recognize him as the main character of mad jack the pirate cartoon on which i heavilly based him )
sooo... he looks like a pirate but not so much a space pirate.. any ideas how to add him some futuristic space look ?
Space pirate ^_^/
Maybe give him more of a modern pirate look?
I did a quick redraw. I think the buttons and collars are what dates the character. You can get away with using the band in the hair and ponyail. That seals the deal as far as a pirate theme is concerned. I gave him a badge, some collar buttons, and futuristic, vertically-striped pants! Woo!

sorry to butt in without and crit, i just want to say that barely anyone around me knows about Mad Jack the pirate and even less people know about The Snoockums and Meat Comedy Show... i loved those cartoons so much when i was a kid
as far as what penguin did to him, i agree but i wish there was another colour besides red, it just screams "tired old star trek rehash"
Mr. Colossal, you hit the nail on the head. I was making the Trek connection, as well; when I did the edit I tried to stick to the spirit of the original as much as possible.
I would think of using colors more in a greenish brown spectrum. Something that looks like it has stood up to a few of the rigors that space has to offer and is worse for the wear. However, Mage's art is much more bright and cartoony than my efforts usually are.
When I think of pirates (be they of space or the carribean) I'm thinking of ratty thrown together clothing. This fellow looks like he's wearing a uniform. Like he's part of a 'federation'. Which is why it screams Star Trek (to me).
Here's something I tried:
- added some shoulder bags/straps
- added a 'gun' to the belt
- added a vest
- darkened the lapels and cuffs
This, to me, just feels more like a pirate. I didn't touch the face, 'cause it's perfect (in my opinion).
Sort of on-topic ... anybody remember the movie The Ice Pirates from 1984? Man I used to love that movie!!

Some modifications :

Somehow those black straps look kinnda weird
and here's how the whole thing gets together (note that this is a test background )
another one :
replaced the collar with something more like a hood. added something like an light chest armour + pads on his arms and knees.
and the second one on another test-purpose background ( with a piece of the gui i'm working on )
oops.. the edit didn't bring the post to the top ( and that will get me more attention :) ) see post above
This looks good! I like your edit of the pirate character!
The backgrounds look great!
Nice style.
Keep it up!
i love the sand background and to comment on the backgrounds next to each other
the inside of the space ship has outlines around everything while the sand background doesn't have any outlines, i say get rid of the outlines in the spaceship background and you'll be set
meanwhile the biggest awkward thing i can think of is his right hand, what in the world is it doing?
I'm pretty sure Mr. Pirate is trying to sling a web, spidey-style.
Beautiful backgrounds, btw, agree about the outlining consistency thing. Still wish that the garish red would go the way of the dodo (the extinct one, not the cloned bio-mechanical 6-million-dollar dodo they recently made). For that matter, I think your backgrounds in general would look a touch better with some lower-saturation colors. Take the purple poiny bits, for one. Based upon their position and the environment they're in, I would expect them to be at least partially obscured by atmosphere. Because of the sandy environment (unless it's a sand & Elmer's glue environment), they might be a more neutral tone as they gather a bit of all the dust being blown about.
Love your style, it's got a unique look that'll be pleasant and easy to remember after we've played a game using it. I recognized Mad Jack at once.. great stuff.
Wow. :P
