Title: Some ideas- Helly Shop
Post by: Cluey on Sat 16/10/2004 14:17:52
Ok, I'm doing a kind of store for a shop in hell, a costume shop, so far I've got some items lining the walls and on the counter, but I need more things in there, any ideas?

you want hell costume ideas?
well, the obvious ones would be a devil, skeleton, grim reaper and angel. Just for the easter egginess of it, you could have a sam 'n max costume, and a guybrush dress.
Here, for some ideas:

What will the walls be made of? Wood or red (lava-kind of) rocks?

Frankenstein, Nosferatu, Dracula, Santa Claus...Ã,  :P
Isn't Nosferatu and Dracula the same thing?

And yes. A pic of what you have done would be nice.

I promised myself, no more lighting effects, but it looks crap without sooo...
As you see, the back wall is pretty full..

Very nice.
Although, I really dislike your usage of lighting effects.
They don't light up the scene realistically, nor do they make it look better.
However, I see the Majora's mask there ;)
So that makes up for it! :D

I would say make the place really cluttered with costumes. And remove the light effects. Please. Change them for real shading.

Yes,Ã,  it is.

..Um. Actually, it's not.

Dracula was the gelled back black hair and poncy count costume. Ã, EG: Bela Lugosi in "Dracula".
Nosferatu was bad, with a large head. Ã, All his teeth were pointy. Ã, His fingers were more like claws. Ã, He wore all black. Ã, EG: Max Schreck in "Nosferatu".

Nosferatu is far scarier.

This may seem a little bitchy, but this is what the scene looks like without lights:

I'm sorry, but I can make it look ok without lights, but it seriously looks better with, and takes less time..
No seriously, I tried without lights, but the only way to get the really dark murky effect is to use em.

I'm sorry, the only way to get really murky dark effect is to spend some more time shading it.
The lighting effect looks unnatural and takes all the depth away from the picture.

I sense a bitch fight...
Real Draw doesn't really allow me to shade easily without being a bitch... it IS a vector drawing package (join the nodes, add FX)
plus, if I get rid of the lighting fx on this one, I have to remove em off all the other bacgrounds, so, I'll stick by the badly done 3D lights..

I don't know ... I kind of like the lighting effects.

They're definately a style I associate with your work.Ã,  If we had a contest "Guess whose BG this is" I could pick out your style easily!

Sure it's not really realistic, but I wouldn't say that's a bad thing!

About the only thing I would suggest, would be to remove some of the loose yellow pixels hangin' about.Ã,  They look like artifacts in an early 3D video game (some of you may remember).

Other than that, I would suggest what's already been said; just clutter the place up with tons of stuff!  The more the merrier!

I sense a bitch fight...

I sense someone not paying attention to a crit that's been repeated in every thread he has started in the CL.

But meh, I'll just stay away from your threads in the future.

That hurts but yeah, it is down to whatever, I know I over use em, but I like em...

You need a a comedic costume as well, something like ghandi or bill clinton etc...

No.. It definately does not need Bill Clinton suit..

And hey! Isn't that 'leather apron' and 'welding mask' from the 5 Days a Stranger  ;)

There's a good helly shop in Cirque de Zale, a game by kinoko. I think can recall pentagrams, candles, potions and spider webs.

Just my two cents.

Remember.. this is a costume shop.

But yeah. Some candles and stuff 'would' make it look funkier.

You need a Jesus costume.

And lens flare...

Lens Flare?
Dont you think I've used enough dodgy effects?

i personally don't mind the lighting effect.Although it would be nicer if done by hand, they don't destroy the image. All i would say is , if you insist on using them, place the one around the lamp on the left more accuratley, there wouldn't be a sliver of light like that above it.
