I use a Wacom Graphire exclusively.  I have a drawing and painting degree, and I work as an artist professionally.  I have not touched actual art supplies in well over 4 years.

If you're looking to start with a tablet, the Graphire 2 is excellent, and comes with Photoshop Elements and Painter Classic, both of which rock.

For $100 you can't beat it.

I have Trust Wacom tablet 200, and it's pretty nice, though if you need it, and i guess you do, I recommend you the 400, because it's way bigger tablet! But this one is working fine for me! I'm btw using Corel Painter, as the drawing program. It's specialized at the tablets, so that program really rocks, if you want the ultimate result out of your tablet!
