Title: Walking cycle for Spacewoman.

I've been working on this side animation for 2 days and I can't get the walking sequence right. Even after re-checking everything I still can't get her to walk smoothly..

Can anyone point the mistakes? Is it the lack of bounce? or perhaps her angles are not right?

At first I thought it was the legs, but each individual frame seems to be in place.. however when I put them all together, this happens..

pointers would be more than welcome.

ps. Does anyone have any good links on traditional walk cycles from adventure games handy? (indy, kq or even bass?)

thanks.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Her whole body seems to be in motion except for her head. It makes her looks as though the head is either detached or floating above her shoulders. I think a bounce/bob in her step would do wonders. Other than that, I really like the amount of detail you were able to pack into 22 x 53 pixels.

First of all: Check Mr.Masse's comment out here (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=8895). It's the second reply. There you have a nice reference to study.

Your sprite is nice! It looks great for an adventure game, but have you thought about how a persons feet move while walking? Your Spacewoman slides her feet forwards and backwards on the ground. Now try walking like that yourself. Pretty hard huh? A real person lifts the foot in the rear position and puts it down in front of him/her. This insight combined with the picture in Mr Masse's post should provide you with the tools needed to animate Spacewoman to perfection.

I think when her foot is in forward position, it looks like she's marching.

her arms are short and they dont look like they bend. it would be better to doublesize it so we could look at it properly.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.. I decided to follow your advice and fixed a few parts.

Again I am not 100% happy with the sliding effect but I 've got to draw the front and back as well.. so I'll leave it like that for the time being.

I've changed the color pattern to something more suitable with the theme, but I might redo her hair again..

Comments & crits are more than welcome.

Maybe a better skin colour? I dunno, it's a really nice animation though. If it is sliding, you just have to lift the leg that is moving up or down. It's got a nice feel to it though, good work PureGhostGR!

Nice animation PureGhostGR! One thng that bothers me in the latest version is that only the head bobs up and down, and the helmet now seems to be floating. maybe if you try bobbing it too?

When you walk, you bend your knees when you raise your legs. This character looks more like she is skiing :P check this tutorial http://www.sylpher.com/kafka/tutorials/walkcycle1.htm it should give you some pointers how legs should move.

Very nice character btw!
