why the fuck are some mods just deleting posts, without further note, why they did so?`

apparently happened to layabout. (see this thread)
and some time ago to me (see here). my post was deleted because i had an other opinion about a processor brand than a mod.

still got the backup. and i will keep one for this thread. and: i will repeat posting this thread when it's gonna get deleted. and it sure is.

at least you mods should have enough guts to tell us why you were deleting stuff. and: don't just delete because our opinion differs from yours! you shouldnt be mod, when you can't distinguish between personal differences and your job, which should be moderating this stuff, not deleting random posts.

Because its their job, a thankless one at that. Deal with it and move on I'd say, learn whats acceptable with the mods and don't do it again unless you want to see it gone. They always have seemed fair to me, but nobodys perfect, live and learn....

personally speaking i think all the threads in the GenGen forum should be deleted with the possible exception of the Long Overdue Post Your Picture Here thread, which could be moved to the Popular Threads forum, or atleast gengen be renamed to the "i'm bored/too lazy to use a search engine/trolling/have no idea how to use a computer/crap nobody cares about/i'm leaving/i'm back/make my game for me" forum...

and i would've appreciated to know why my post was deleted. may happen in an accident, like a backup of the db had to be installed. but i clearly don't want to see my posts get deleted and everybody just does as if they never existed..

There's a simple idea everyone should follow: If you don't like the way moderators do their job, then go away. Start your own AGS forum if you want.

CJ pays for this forum and assigns people to moderate the forums. They're doing their job with the full support of CJ. If you don't like it, you can raise your objections directly with the moderators or CJ. But don't expect them to reverse their decisions if something violates one of the rules. If you don't like the rules, like I said go ahead and make your own forum. But this is CJ's forum and he (and, by extention, the mods) should be able to run it any way he wants to.

So stop being crybabies if your posts get deleted.

Indeed. If one of your posts has been deleted, but it didn't violate the rules, then let me know and I'll deal with the person responsible.

Well, I'm not sure what the hub-bub is all about, but i can freely say that I havn't deleted any posts/threads around here in aloong time.  I prefer the locking/editing route as it is  not permenant.

geoff, i completely disagree. yeah, it's a forum. i am supposed to express opinions. and when i really want to express it (and thus write a post about it) i don't want to see it getting deleted.

I might also take the opportunity to say that I never delete posts, unless they're empty of meaning and their owner asked for it.

If the posts are inappropriate in any way, I usually let them hang around to show people what not to post, and rather look the thread, etc.

If the posts contain bad language or direct personal abuse, I might edit the post and point out somewhere what exactly I did to it.

I think Dasjoe did the right thing to raise the question concerning his own posts. Even if CJ's and the moderator's words stand, this is not a fascist-forum, and nobody should be treated unfairly.
