The Cosmic Hobo

Hi, I'm J. J. Guest and I'm new to AGS, but very excited about making my first game! By profession I'm a digital artist working in the animation industry, but I'm best known on the web for my text adventures To Hell in a Hamper and Goldilocks is a FOX! ( I use TADS and ADRIFT and have been a member of the ADRIFT forum for several years. ) AGS looks like a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on this forum!

Wow! Welcome, DO you have a website, I would realy like to try out your games!  If you need anyone to collaborate with feel free to mail me, I got all kind of weird stories running up there in my head   ;D

P.S.  Make sure you don't use to many question marks, or punctuation.

They seem to get upset around here if you do? lol No its pretty much cool around here except for a few #@%$@#,  freeaks but other than that we seem to get along great!

- EDIT -

Silly me you do have your website on your sig, checking it out now!

What kind of animation? 3d maybe?  :D

Welcome!
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Ishmael

Welcome!

Our friend Demorgon here is a bit overreacting as he feels he has been attacked openly here... It's under investigation, so no need to worry.

And btw. I'm not the insane one around here...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

<Calin> Ishmael looks awesome all the time

A big welcome to The Cosmic Hobo.

I hope your stay is lengthy and you produce much AGS goodiness.

And if not ... I'll track you down and smite you with my lightsabre!

;)

Welcome!

Haddas

Welcome. I played the game in your sig. It's funny. I like games with loads of humour.

Hello there. *salutes*

I look forward to seeing your AGS projects. I mean, let's face it, any game by a guy called 'The Cosmic Hobo' has GOT to be crazy-go-awesome-nuts!

Good luck!

Kweepa

Escape from the Crazy Place is a lot of fun.
I laughed out loud on several occasions.
Thanks for that!
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

Wow! What a reception. Thanks!

In answer to your questions....
I don't do 3D animation, at least I haven't done as yet, but I do work with computers most of the time. The bulk of my work is in compositing and special effects, but I have also directed and animated a few jobs for Nickelodeon and others. I use Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Animo, Flash, Corel Painter and Moho. I have used one or two 3D programs, but it was a long time ago and they've moved on a bit since then! One or two of the illustrations in my choose-your-own-adventure game were done using Softimage 3D.

At present you can't download my IF games from my website, (but you can play the choose-your-own-adventure "Escape from the Crazy Place", as some of you have already discovered.) Eventually they will be available there, but in the meantime you can download Goldilocks is a FOX! from BAF's guide to the IF archive and To Hell in a Hamper from the IF archive. The ADRIFT version is available from BAF's guide but the TADS version is a lot more polished.

To play Goldilocks you will need the ADRIFT runner available from the ADRIFT website. For To Hell in a Hamper you'll need the HTML TADS players kit from the IF archive.

Yes, I know, it would be less complicated if I had them all together on my site. Hope you can work it out! Oh, and thanks for playing Escape from the Crazy Place!

You've got quite a history.

What are you planning with AGS?

That's why you don't have to code unless you want to do something complicated. If you want to do something complicated, there are nice help forums. Welcome.

Olleh!

Woah, stuff for Nickelodeon... thats cool.

Word of warning, if it hasn't already happened, you'll be getting alot of PM's very soon from people asking if you could do sprites for their game. :)

Anyway, welcome to the forums...  ;D

Actually somebody already did ask for help!

What I did for Nickelodeon was a couple of "stings" or trailers for upcoming programmes. It was fun; we had to cram a lot of plot into a few seconds! Most of the animation I do tends to be cut-out animation (like South Park only a tad more sophisticated!) as I'm too lazy to draw dozens of drawings. I'd be interested to know how people here make their sprites. I'm intending to use Flash or Moho. (Moho is a 2D vector animation program like Flash except that it allows you to give your characters skeletons like in a 3D program, and even has inverse kinematics (so if you move the character's foot up the knee bends automatically in a naturalistic way.) It's rather cool, and pretty cheap.) The little guy in my avatar was done using Animo, which uses a similar system. You can do a lot more sophisticated things, but I wanted to keep him simple!

m0ds

Can you make me a sprite?

Just kiddin'
