I was looking into the idea of VMs since i like linux but sometimes it annoys me to switch between the OSs and i found andLinux.

The idea being that its a kind of wrapper for linux apps which allows them to run on windows machine. Like wine in reverse. Now ofcourse there is quite a performance penalty (about half it seems) but the ability to be able to natively run things like bluefish seems quite appealing.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Ubuntu is faster, more robust and less prone to infections than Windows so why would you want to use Windows as the main platform?

I have really good success with kubuntu and virtualbox.  Set it up in seamlees mode and it works great.

But if you really must use windows then you may want to checkout the windows version of KDE.

While that is all true, Windows has greater support for multimedia. Specifically Cubase.

Windows also has greater support for gaming.

As much as I love linux as a development platform it still cant cut it from a multimedia and gaming standpoint.

EDIT: Virtual Box does look cool... i might have a go when i get home from work.

Wrong. Ubuntu is slower, poorly slapped together, and can barely maintain usability sometimes. Between flamewars with the Debian developers and keeping a poor 6-month cycle, Ubuntu just can't do everything it seems.

EDIT: But in all seriousness, though, use what you like.
The fediverse needs great indie game developers! Find me there!

I almost read the title as "ArchLinux".

Yeah, I agree, Sun's VirtualBox is great. Dual booting is a pain in the arse. I like to have everything I use easily accessible once my computer is running. Since 3ds Max is designed for Windows, it's my only choice. I am running Windows 7 Pro and have run Ubuntu without fail in a Virtual Machine, Windows Vista and XP. VirtualBox also provides basic graphics card support IIRC nowadays, so generally it will run most things.

Rather, I read it as "AntLinux". :=

I'm never interested in Linux. I don't like Windows either, but there's no reason for me to move to Linux. Having seen this thread yesterday I thought it was some light-weight launcher that you could launch Linux programmes under Windows. Since I may want to try some programmes occasionally that are currently only for Linux, I downloaded it. I did see the installer was a ridiculous several hundred MB file but I still proceeded to grab it and install it, only to find out it consumed more than 4GB of my precious harddisk space :P. So, without ever trying it I uninstalled it immediately.

As I already have VirtualBox, if I really need to try something I'd rather install a "real" Linux package (even though it may still waste as much space it's not a stupid wrapper) in a virtual machine.
