Title: ARTIST NEEDED
Post by: Captain Mostly on Thu 15/07/2004 12:47:52
Hello, I realise this thread might be in the wrong place, but I guess the moderators will move it where it needs to be.

I'm working on a project that's very very close to my heart.

It's basically going to be an isometric adventure game with a stripped down inventory system, and some RPG elements dropped in for good measure. It will be a sequel to the text adventure game "The Golden Wombat Of Destiny" and will share many of the locations and themes from that game (easy to find on the internet - and fun to play if you want to have a go)

It is important to me that this game LOOKS good, and as such I need an artist!

I know it's demanding, but I'd really like just one person to take on all the backgrounds and characters, because I think that the smaller the team, the easier it is to get it to work.

There's no enormous rush on this project, and it'll probably take a while because I want it to be quite big, so a certain degree of faith and desire to work is envolved.

ALSO: the workload will obviously be biggest at the start of the project, in order to get player character animations and GUI art out of the way. I'm letting you know this just so that people aren't put off by there being LOADS to do at the start, because it won't be that way for the whole thing.

I've had good experiences of working with Squinky on Vegetable Patch Extreem Turbo 2, which I mention to assure you there's no need to worry that *I* might not have the dedication to carry it through.

The look is very much open to your enterpretation. I have some pics that Squinky knocked up before getting pregnant if you want a starting point, but as long as it's brooding and looks GOOD, I'm happy for the artist to make the look of the game just the way they want it.

Someone in the UK might be useful, as I had great difficulty explaining to U.S.A squinky what a chav/charver was. He kept thinking I meant someone who had some sort of street cred...

PLEASE help me!

it is quite demanding what you ask and it is going to cost someone a lot of time. I think they want first to see some of it to see if YOU stick too it. Because people want to know where they put there spare time in. Don't get me wrong, i like youre idea, but as i said, it is quite demanding.

Just so that the (I'm sure) entirely well-meaning Remco doesn't get confused, Captain Mostly has produced several games in the past, including the already-mentioned cult classic Richard Longhurst and the Box that Ate Time (http://agsforums.com/games.php?action=detail&id=5), a couple (http://ron.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=97) of RON (http://ron.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=103) games, and Vegetable Patch Extreem Turbo numbers one (http://agsforums.com/games.php?action=detail&id=308) and two (http://agsforums.com/games.php?action=detail&id=309).

As mentioned by Gilbert, the Captain is really, really beloved in the community.

So now you know.

No hard feelings remco. I'm not THAT regular on the forums, so am not THAT familiar with most of the newer people around here!

As for all the lovely comment, thankyou everyone who made them!

I guess I can understand that this is too much to ask from most people, so I think I'll start asking around people I know in Derby, and see if anyone like that can lend me a hand. It's easier to keep in contact with people if you know where they live I feel...

OR I guess I could end up drawing it all myself... I suppose I'll have to leave you on tenterhooks until I've got a solution...

Thank you anyway everyone!

If you want pixellation then I can give it a shot, I'm not too shabby at the old isometrics. If, however, you want some quality rendering... I shrug my virtual shoulders. Seek out Pessi the recluse and tell him of thy quest.

Remmies, you havent even finished a background, all you have done is posted your character in 50 spots on the forum asking for help. Finish something before you start something else... I know that sounds harsh but theres people like you every month that come and start a thread then leave

I'm from the UK and I have no clue as to what a chav/charver is.  Is it some sort of urban kudos, or something?

Also, Scotch would be a good person to seek out for this project, too.

Iqu, there are many names for a chav and I am sure you have probably seen one. They hang around in packs of 10-20 around macdonalds and fast food restaurant. They swear alot and all seem to share a common speech  impediment. They often tuck their trousers into their socks and leave collars on all tops up. They wear ellese and reebok trainers and again, swear alot. They are basically just nother social group but IMHO they are the reason why people my age (15) get a bad reputaion by generally being arses.

See, to me this elusive thing called a chav is what I call a gangbanger wannabe suburban white-kid type guy here in america...isn't that the same thing?

And people, please help me to minimize my guilt by helping Cap'n out here....I do think it would rock if pesty would help especially (Her style would fit in cool with Cap'ns I think)...

Synonyms for 'chav' include 'scally', 'pikey', 'townie', 'cunt' and some others that I can't be bothered typing.

If you'd like to learn more about chavs, please visit Scally Central (http://www.scallycentral.com/).

While we are on the subject of slang, I still have difficultly understanding the Bob's your uncle thing. I mean, where do these weird things come from?  ???

No.Ã,  Although it would be perhaps fair to say that chavs are predominantly white, they don't have to be; it's nothing to do with race, it's all to do with being a twat.
