Title: C&A moderation
Post by: SSH on Fri 02/06/2006 16:09:07
Can I suggest that:

a) Klaus is made a mod of C&A since he posts the MAGS stuff every month
b) Someone locks the defunct Coding contest that hasn't been posted in since 26th May...
c) The mods check out the forum a week bit more often? :-\

I do agree the place needs some cleanup. It gets confusing in even a few days sometimes.

May I suggest that the animation, comic, coding and OWOR competitions, the quizzening, the ASCII game and the ongoing comic activity be added to the forum charter and that puzzle time and the poetry competition be crossed out?

May I suggest not deleting threads. Whatever happened to the OROW thread? ¬¬
Heh, I know someone probably accidently deleted it but still. :P

Also I think Klaus would make a great moderator.

I have no idea what happened to the OROW thread.

Can somebody fix the screenshots? How will we know how to post a proper GiP thread without it.

Overall a lot of the mods have slowly been disappearing. I haven't heard from C.Lex. in a long time. I thought by now he would have gotten internet. Or maybe he died in a mission.

Though some of them pop back randomly. Dark Stalkey was gone there for a while.

Well, I'm a moderator of the Competitions and Activities Board. Though I only became a mod when I took over the Photoshop Phriday. I've always tried to keep an eye on that contest and I've never felt right locking or dealing with any of the other threads.

I agree that it's a bit of a mess though, and I don't have regular access to the internet so I'm not in a great position to sort it out. I would give up my position as moderator if a more suitable candidate was interested in cleanin' up that town.

Well... if needs be CJ will no doubt start a moderator recruitment drive. Or just ask around to see if anybody has any experiance...  :) Maybe we just need to poke CJ a bit to see.

I check the forums regularly.  However, I can only take action on threads in the Critics Lounge.  There are several people with global moderator status that, for one reason or another, have not been taking an active role in the forum's upkeep--but they are the ones who are readily capable of dishing out justice in all threads.

Blame AGA and scotch I say.

Every other forum is well under control, and not too many mods have left... c_leks went missing, true... and we're all very worried! But DS was never away.  Several global moderators are around on the forums for a few hours a day each, and Gilbert and Fuzzpilz are around a lot too.  The problem is just that the competitions forum is a very different thing, with so many competitions that need to be locked on a regular basis, most of which will be uninteresting to any one of us, nobody is reading them to lock them once voting is finished.  If anyone wants that job, PM CJ, sure.

"There are several people with global moderator status that, for one reason or another, have not been taking an active role in the forum's upkeep" - who? I almost never post an "I moderated this!" notice on threads, I just move, merge, delete etc.  So it might not be obvious when mods do things.  But in the general forums abusive threads are locked pretty quickly, by whichever moderator sees them, and the tech forums are kept tidy by the tech forum mods, you do a fine job in critics, and darth's moderation of the GiP forum is legendary!

I check C&A often enough (though apparently I don't always look closely enough) - I don't know about the others, but my policy is to do no locking before it's clear that the winner has noticed they won (i.e. they've posted in the old thread or started the new thread, the latter being what I mostly look for), which may contribute somewhat to my unfortunate tendency to overlook things.

When you do things right, people won't know that you've done anything at all.

Yes, otherwise this place would have looked like the Hints and Tips forum. *cough*

Hehe, touche.

Anyway, in terms of C&A moderation, it's not as simple as "the person running each competition gets to be moderator", because most of the competitions change organiser every week. But we should probably find a couple of people who do read the C&A regularly to be extra moderators just to lock old topics.
