Maybe some sort of status on the forum, like mittens. Maybe you could put into his name a 'Champo for 06/07' or something like that.

Dunno, just my two cents.

Still, imo, I wouldn't like a competition like this that makes some better than others. Even though I know that in my superiority I would win all the cathegories, I still feel for the rest who thought people liked them. Notice the joke in latter.

What i initially meant is not a long competition, just more time so people can get time. I guess I explained it badly sorry. It's still a normal sprite jam and a normal bg blitz like always, but just with more time so the greats can actually get the time to enter since its hard for all of them to compete in a challenge at the same time with other projects. Then also explain how they go about what they did for the compo. Could be thrillingÃ,  :)

I don't think labelling the bests is a bad idea, its generally the people who aren't the best but think they are who complain about this haha. The sports world works like that, what's wrong with competitive rivalry, could only benefit the artists themselves.

I got the idea from the tennis masters series. At the end of the season the highest ranked players get to play in the competition. They are there cause they earned it during the season, so i agree with babar, though the best people don't always enter the sprite jams like helm and mrc. Thats why people with great game art could also be invited.

But yes, it was just an idea, one that could benefit people here tremendously whilst having fun. Then also sort of the years top artist could be chosen.

Anym: haha, don't take this so personally ;)

All this invitation thing seems like a bad idea. No doubt some good artists won't be invited and some bad ones will be. It all depends on weater or not you entered the regular competitions, made a cool game or something like that. You don't know what an artist not as skilled as Helm or Loominous can do if he has the time to. If you have months to do a sprite, you can tweak it and mess with it until you make it competable agenst the "big shots". And leaving people out of the thing becouse they are not good enough for someone's standarts is another bad idea. This isn't sport, this is a comunity. I don't mind a big competition that lasts a month or more...but I just don't want someone to decide who's good enough to compete in it - you never know.
Prize? No, thanks. I don't sprite FOR the prize. I sprite becouse I like to.
And I hate explaining how I do sprites. I do them like everyone else, I just try to make it look good.

I'm not interested in prizes (unless you mean the money kind).  I'm against contests that ultimately make someone out to be 'better' than someone else, especially when judging the quality of art is so subjective.  It's not a spelling bee or a math exam, afterall.

Sam.

instead of doing another competition, why dont you gather all the winning entries (i will use the Sprite Jam for exampl) and post them all, and take a vote on the best sprite of the year, and choose the winner that way?
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Yes, something like maggies, perhaps?

Zooty's idea is the best one in this thread, and I'm really against every other idea here.
