Well as you all are probably aware, Firefox 1.0 was released today. If you were didnt know, well now you do, or don't know what Firefox is, it is an alternative browser to Internet Explorer. Other alternatives are available like Opera, and IE shells such as Avant and Maxathon, but I have found Firefox to be the best for me due to its customisation and increased security.

So yeah it is really cool, and is so much better than IE. Really, don't use IE if you can help it. A shell for IE is good, but a whole new browser not built on the IE engine will provide much better security.

Get it here:

EDIT: Well now 1.0.1 is out. It fixes security and stability issies. You can get it at the link above.

I have tried it. yeah, it's realy better than IE. worth to try... and to use.
My games are good because they are lame!

I second that. It's a wonderful browser, and has a cute panda in it. What more could one want?

Best piece of software made in recent years....

Well, AGS is better. Or is it?!!!!  :o

Panda? What panda? Am I missing something?

Well that makes sense. I always thought that the logo was of a fox. It still does look like a ox, but I have to admit that the Red Panda looks alot like a fox in certain pictures.

Anyways, you might be having troubles with the mozilla site. It seems to be very busy, and I have had great trouble trying to download extensions and themes. It should clear up soon tho.

I'd use it.. But in the amount of time it takes to load up FireFox, I could load IE and get to this post.

I'd rather continue using Opera just because I had used to it, nothing special.

Weird, on my computer, Firefox seems to be just slightly faster than IE....

Regardless, it's worth it just because IE seems to be a lot more vulnerable to malicous programs....

That is if you have a (sexual) fixation with opening and closing the web browser...! Unless you have a pretty old computer, because I really can't tell much of a difference.

What are you talking about? FF loads up faster than IE for me as well. Maybe your computer just sucks. Buy a new one, Drew!

Firefox also takes a little longer to load up for me than the browser I use

I tried switching to Firefox, Esseb gave me all the links and extensions to install and everything... but I just have too many habits from the browser I use to switch over.

I just got the proxies working so firefox could work on my gf's computer [her internet is the universities and it was being annoying]. It's great to browse here with some of my firefox habits, like not having the browser crash all the time.

And I think the point about Firefox taking longer to load is vaid, but I leave it open all the time, and everything else in the browser works faster, if only for the ad block extension.

I havn't really noticed any slowness in starting up. Only when you have downloaded extensions, when you start up next time, they are installed, so it might take a few seconds longer, but generally it doesn't at all. I find it quite fast. And even if it did take a little longer to load, it is still heaps better than IE.

I played around with this for a while, but no matter how much I customise it, the toolbar layout just feels less appealing to me then the default IE layout. And it can't seem to download the plug-ins needed to play Yahoo chess, and I'm not about to start using a browser that can't run Yahoo chess.

On the critical logo issue... I personally think the Firefox logo is, in fact, just a fox. On fire. Hooray for literalism!

Considering the fact they also sell red panda plushies, I would say that there's no fox on the logo.

emm...
firefox does hawe some minor bugs (not really important)
- sometimes my setings are deleted for no aperant reason and you hawe to use the defoult setings.
- I also hawe my own website. And when I upload thge site that has a new look the old site loads (although the old site has been deleted from the serwer - wierd huh  :P )

but these bugs aren't that important and can be fixed...

Viktor, that's just caching, most browsers do it. Just press CTRL+R or F5 to reload the page...

So... aside from "enhanced security" and tons of add-ons, does it actually load HTML and PHP properly now?
