Im starting this thread because of the events that have occured in the past 24 hours. The way many people acted (Including myself) twords legge was inappropriate and wrong. I believe there should be some forum reforms instated in light of the events. My ideas:

-Moderation Forum: A place where people can go to request moderator interference with their thread or a thread thats getting out of hand.

-Warning Level: After repeated warnings a short term posting suspension. This could be achieved via use of a new group called "Suspended"

-Self Lock of own threads: I saw a script out to allow this. People should know when their thread is out of hand.

-Join test modifications: more difficult and if you fail you cant take it again for a day

-Elimination of unregisterd posters: fake name flaming is awfull, if your gonna flame have enough balls to say it to the persons face.

Post anymore you can think of, or rants on my ideas.

That's what the "Report to moderator" link and the PM'ing system are for.

If you can't control yourself, why try to control other people? Does the forum really need to reach a nazi state with a harder test? The test is quite frankly very annoying as-is to people who aren't n00bs and have to waste time with it.

You even posted this in the wrong forum. This isn't adventure related at all.

Its ags related and there isnt a thread for forum issues

Here's a forum idea: How about people read the rules first and stop acting like retarded Nazis?

Locking own thread isn't bad idea.

AGA

Yes it is, people would just end up locking their threads for fun, or the second the topic changes to something they don't like.

Evil

Unregestered posting is what I like about this place. I dont have to login just to say something quick while I'm at school or work.

Heh, It looks like that whatever we do, there's always some way to turn this forum into kindergarten. I'd suggest more strict moderation in General Discussion forum, this is where chaos starts. And treat all members equally, I know it should be this way, but it really doesn't seem so. Some Legge gets flamed hardcore for overposting, but some oldschool members do same all the time and nobody makes big deal.

LordHart

Maybe having a password system for Unregistered posting would be a good idea. When you join up, you get a Guest password that you can use when just quickly putting something in... though, then thats just an extra incentive for stupid people to join... :-\

Wouldn't that be just like, I don't know, logging in? And isn't there a log-in time limit when you do it, so that you won't stay logged in? It's not that much of a hassle, though I've posted as a guest before too.

For the guest thing, you can log in while posting (as an option)

When you click reply and you're not logged, when you type in your reply there is a password and username box as well...maybe...

I suggest that whenever you clikc "post" a dialog box comes up and says "did you remember to think before you post? and then there is a checkbox for "interesting," "funny," or "helpful."  THis would also be good because people would know when to laugh at your jokes.

[check] funny

LordHart

That wasn't very funny...

[check=helpful] :D

So a few of you go crazy and for some reason decide to attack every post made by this new person and the rest of the way the AGS community works has to change?

How about the people who do bad things change and not the system that has worked for 4 years...

when we say ags related, we are mostly referring to the editor. like the beg tech and the tech forum are for the ags editor related problems.

the gen gen is for forum issues. but not "I hate this person" thread. take that up on PM's. and yeah, there is the report to a moderator.

These forums have been around for over 4 years now, and from time to time we're bound to go through a rocky patch.

This latest outburst was caused by two things:
1. Excessive posting by a certain new member who was breaking all the forum rules
2. The way in which some existing members reacted to this was appalling and not something to be proud of.

If problems like this continue, I may be forced to make the minimum age limit of 16 mandatory, disable guest posting and have new members join by approval only.

But I really don't want to do that.

Use some common sense, people. For now, I've just added the "THINK BEFORE YOU POST" clause to the reply screen.

By far the most important thing to remember is this:
3. If you're not a moderator, don't pretend to be one. If a thread needs to be moved or locked, the moderators will deal with it.

There is no point whatsoever in replying to tell someone they are posting in the wrong place, or to read the rules, or whatever. That is the moderator's job. If you're not a moderator, then DO NOT post replies as if you are one. Just leave it, a moderator will sort it out.

Peter Thomas

CJ, you might wanna add that clause to quick reply as well. Because that's what I use, and I don't see it anywhere.

Don't know if it's possible...
Peter: "Being faggy isn't bad!"
AGA: "Shush, FAG!"

Andail

Also, there is now a small crew of global moderators, so that situations that get out of hand hopefully can be dealt with even faster.

But I do think that the latest events have taught some people a lesson, and that things will cool down soon.

DGMacphee

And as a side-note to that, I'm sick of how if one person buggers up (ala Legge), then 10 people post to tell him he's buggered up.

I can handle one or two people, but it's like everyone wants to jump on the forum-nazi bandwagon while screaming "MY TURN, DUDE!!"

I think if someone's already posted a message like "Wrong forum, man!" or "You post a lot for a n00b!" or even "You shouldn't pirate software!", then no one else needs to.

And as always, if you've got a problem, speak to a moderator.

And what I don't understand is it's the same people doing it -- people who have been here for a while and should already know the rules.
