Title: Gardening woes
Post by: Phemar on Wed 22/06/2011 13:00:11
So I just recently moved into my new place, and the garden was in a state of nuclear holocaust. I've spent the last week working on it, and I just need some help designing the flower bed. Here's a picture of it:

Following the wall I want to put in a flower/plant bed, but I don't want it to just follow the wall like a ruler, I'd like it curve slightly or something. The thing is, I'm having a bit of trouble designing the curve. If any of the more artistic-minded AGSers could maybe draw in a curve or something for me to work with, that would be absolutely fantastic!

I'd also take suggestions on plants to put in there that require minimum maintenance.

Thanks!

Your garden (to be) now really looks like a garden of a serial killer with some fresh graves... :P

Some low-maintenance flowers:

Heath (e.g. Calluna vulgaris)
Coneflowers (Echincea purpurea)
Lavender (Lavandula)
The Michaelmas Faisy (Asteraceae)
Hortensia (Hydrangea)

Put a freakin big blue cup in the middle of it and grass around it.

Yes, plant a blue cup and you'll have games popping up everywhere!

Haha maybe I'll put in a big bluecup water feature, right in the middle :D

Arjon, you should've seen it before I started working on it. Basically where all the dirt is now, was just PURE weeds. Aaah!

You just keep on growing that weed, there'll be a reward for you in it.

I love what you have done with the place:) I am a big fan of Ivy, it grows at a steady rate, it was about 7 years before we had to start to do maintenance, and now it needs a trim about once a year. Its great because it covers your walls and makes your garden fell a bit more secluded. You also get some really pretty greens and yellows in your garden:)

So let me get this straight, you ripped out all the weed, and left clumps of grass and mounds of dirt.....Who are you.....the DEA.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I'm pretty proud of myself so far. Removed all the weeds, put in the paving, leveled out all the soil and planted some beautiful grass... Now to just wait for the suckers to grow!
