I saw this the other day at the cinema where I work.  I'd never seen Planet Terror or Death Proof before, so it was good to see them both together as originally intended.

I  preferred Planet Terror, just.  And I love the fake trailers, especially 'Don't'.

Definitely has to be seen at the cinema to be truly appreciated.

Have you seen it?
What did you think?

My flatmate works at the cinema, so a bunch of us were lucky enough to go to a special screening of Grindhouse as it was intended.

Very fun stuff, we were all laughing all the way through. Both fantastic movies, and would work well individually anyway. I wanted to get some kind of "Grindhouse" double film DVD set, btu it appears no such thing exists :( Oh well, I saved the trailers to my hard drive anyway.

I heard that a longer feature is in production consisting of just trailers done in this style. Not sure how that will work, or if it will be worth sitting through for however long, but may be something to keep an eye on.

I waited so, so long...
And then I saw it.
And it was good.
And I was very, very happy.

I didn't see Death Proof yet, but I rented Planet Terror.  Of course I loved it, it had zombies.
Watch, I just killed this topic...

Planet Terror is a riot.

You've really got to be in a certain mood to see Death Proof.    It's chitty chat for like 40 minutes.

I saw the original theater run of Girindhouse and halfway thru Death Proof I was ready to walk out.   Planet Terror was satisfying in itself.

LGM and I saw Grindhouse when it came out. I loved the whole thing. Planet Terror was a fun and sort of campy take on Grindhouse films, but Tarantino took Death Proof to the extreme and made it as much like a Grindhouse flick as he could. It was a bit boring at parts, but it made the rest of the movie so much better.

Danny Trejo is supposedly doing a full length version of Machete, which will be kick ass. I didn't find Don't as funny as everyone else did. Other than Machete, I think the best trailer was Werewolf Women of the S.S.

Not having seen any of these films, I'm a bit confused. The way I originally understood it from the trailers I saw the original film was titled "Grindhouse", but then when the sequel "Death Proof" was released it was renamed to "Planet Terror". Am I mistaken in this? From what I've read here I'm thinking that either Planet Terror and Death Proof were collectively the film "Grindhouse" but later split into two separate movies; or that Grindhouse was an entirely separate third film which contained trailers for other movies such as Planet Terror and Death Proof...?

In either case I fail to see how this would be so horribly amazing. The trailers I've seen entirely failed to impress me, but the comments here have actually caught my eye and make me think I may have judged the film(s) too quickly.

Grindhouse is a term for a kind of movie theather which showed exploitation movies in the 70's.    The movies were typically shown as double features.

So "Grindhouse" (released last year) was a 4 hour block of movies consisting of "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof."  When box office sales disappointed the studio - they stopped showing it as a double feature, splitting up the two films.

I saw it as originally intended and many many people walked out of the theatre half way thru the 2nd movie.   This was 3 and a half hours into the show, so it's pretty understandable.   Grindhouse double features are not for everyone.

Somebody in this thread said there might be a sequel with just a bunch of trailers.  I think that's a misinterpretation of the fact they 're filming a feature length movie based on the fake trailer "Machete".   People saw the fake trailer during Grindhouse  & demanded to see a real movie based on it.

There's also rumor of Eli Roth doing a film consisting entirely of trailers, as he enjoyed making the Thanksgiving one. I thought that trailer was aces, for me it just really captured those trailers that I love.
Grindhouse was never released as one film here, although some arthouse theatres are showing it soon as one film. Both were released separate months back. I thought they were both great, but I really think Planet Terror was the stand out.

Hmmm, I've actually sat through hours of trailers before.

It might work but it's very risky.    The screenings I saw was basically a contest to make the best fake trailer.    Everyone was pumped because they were waitin for their own trailer to play.   I think anything more than 8 or 10 trailers at a time is a big fail.

People get to watch trailers when they go and see any movie, why would they pay to sit through a load more?
The fake ones for Grindhouse were an amazing touch, but any more than 4 or 5 and the joke would have started to get old fairly quickly.

Are you kidding me? I love movie trailers! I'd totally watch heaps of trailers set up as a movie length feature :D.

I seriously dislike the people that skip the trailers when you rent a film >:(.

I get too excited about faux trailers. Grayson, I thought, was amazing and I wanted it to be a movie SOOOO BADLY! It wasn't done that well, but it still was an awesome concept. It's also the perfect example of why trailers for fake movies are both awesome and annoying. I don't think a movie of just trailers would work, but it still might be good.

Here's a link to the Grayson trailer.

I've posted this somewhere before, but the Titanic 2 trailer was pretty funny.
