Title: How can I play a game with a .d64 extension?
Post by: Stupot on Mon 24/03/2008 15:55:15
Sorry if I sound really layman, but I've just downloaded 'How to be a Complete Bastard' (I'm thinking of making an AGS game based on the same idea) and it's a .d64 file which I gather is something to do with it being a commodore64 game (although we had it on our Amstrad yonks ago).  Does anybody know exactly what I need to do/download/sleep with to get this game running?

Cheers guys.

[EDIT]
Unless you know where I can simply find a more accessible version of the game online...

If it's a C64 game, just find a C64 emulator, I think there're a bunch around...

I never used C64 emulators, so you have to search around (which should be very easy) or wait for others to reply.

Yes, just download VICE from viceteam.org and run x64.exe, then select "Autostart disk/tape image..." from the File menu.
On the offchance it's not a C64 game, try some of the other Commodore emulators that come in the VICE package.

Cheers, Steve.  I gave it a go and I can get the file up on the C64 screen, but then it won't load the game it just stays on the boot screen saying 'loading'?...  It won't let me take a screenshot to show you.

Or am I actually expected to wait 10 minutes for the game to load, just like the old days? (that would be some faithful emulator)

Got it going.  Thanks man.
