I want to make a pointless thread too..!

I really do. But I can't think of a subject.

So then I wonder, why do people start pointless topics so much? What's the point?

It just seems to me that there are people all around who just have the ultimate need to post something. Why don't we stop thinking if the post really is up to the golden rules? Giving them a glance just now I think this thread is conflicting with the first one.

What drives some people to post without reason? Is it just sheer attention seeking? Or an attempt to raise post counts?

I know I'm not that trigger happy, although I do make useless posts. But if I have nothing to say on a thread I just leave it. Why can't some people do that? We'd benefit from it a lot if they did. Reduced server load (not a big deal tho, I guess), threads would stay on topic and quality of conversation ought to be higher, moderators would have a bit less work to do, the persons making these posts wouldn't lose the little reputation they have left... and world piece. Pees. Pease... stuff.

Not naming names or pointing fingers, just generally. This does happen in about all the forums out there.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

What mad eyou post this one... Something that was annoying to you.

Another pointless thread is created however I enjoyed this pointless thread as it stated that it was one and that I expected nothing more than well a pointless thread.

Frankly I see much more point in this thread than in your post, Afflict, what language it may be that doesn't use dots or commas.

But it seems so to me too. People don't always have opinoins but feel the desire to say something. Be it a pointless thread or an off topic statement. Though it's not like those were the end of the world, it may be a bit annoying to the one who is trying to get something out of the thread. Now that I think of it, it may be good that there are some pointless threads about that we can drown our enthusiasm in and then stay stricktly in business everywhere else.
It's so easy to reply something silly to something silly when someone starts it first, I reckon...

I see dots, and I dont really care about commas when I get home from work.  :P

PS : Interesting gramar, Tuomas.

... it's quite easy being the best.

The first thing is, I don't think people realize their posts are useless. Ã, What seems interesting/helpful/funny to one person may seem idiotic to the next. Ã, Is it also attention-seeking? Ã, Maybe a little; if you don't post, people won't realize if you're gone or even that you were there in the first place. Ã, Of course, it would be better if they were quality posts ^_^

On a slight tangent, I've never really understood the obsession with increasing post counts. Ã, I like having mine low, if it's too high I feel like I've been blabbering on too much. Ã, At AGS I'm averaging 2 posts per day, and I have no idea how it got that high! (well, I do know how, but it doesn't feel like I post that much). Ã, Hopefully most of them were not useless--this thread is making me worry! ^_^

Pointless post syndrome seems to come and go in waves, where we'll go through a period of having a largely sensible forum, then someone will post something stupid and that seems to declare silly season, at which point everyone wants to get in on the act.

Really I'd just ask everyone to adhere to the Three Golden Rules when posting -- before you hit that "Post" button, just ask yourself whether your post is really worth reading.

MashPotato

Just to make an amendment to my post count comment...

I only just realized that my comment could have been taken as though I was disparagingly referring to SSH (from his recent thread) and that wasn't my intention at all! :-[Ã,  My talk about "blabbering" was specifically aimed at myself, since I haven't really contributed anything of note to the community yet, and have only just started fiddling around with AGS.

I may be alarmist, but I hope nobody took me the wrong way.Ã,  You must have thought me terribly rude :-[

Helm

feel free to be mean to SSH. He likes it.

In other words CJ just said, Alynn quit posting, you have no business in civilized society, let alone in the AGS forums (which is more civlized than pretty much all other internet communities).

Because nobody reads what I post...

Damn I did it again didn't I?

Oh and MashPotato, the only thing I've actually ever released was a trailer for a game that I actually had full intentions on completing... Until I went on a year long stint in the desert, and when I came back, my wife didn't update my virus scanner at all (I knew I should have set it on auto update) and never ran a scan (ditto). So I had to format my whole computer, destroying that game in the process (Alynn now wonders if anyone remembered Sky Tower Rescue's trailer, and if by chance they still have it because if anything I'd like to see my work again)..

In other words... I haven't done crap in the community really either... other than snide remarks, and smart ass comments.
