Title: If Ben Chandler wrote Flash games...
Post by: paolo on Thu 18/11/2010 13:35:15
...then he might very well write something like this (http://jayisgames.com/cgdc9/?gameID=11).

This is from a Casual Gameplay competition over at jayisgames (http://jayisgames.com). Here are the other entries (http://jayisgames.com/cgdc9/).

Though it started out a bit slow, I found it very sweet, especially towards the end. Funnily enough, I've been wanting to do a scene with two people sitting on swings for ages hah.

Also, I played this (http://armorgames.com/play/6744/together) the other week which happens to be from the same author :)

I think Ben makes far better games than this one. With much richer, more interesting worlds to explore.

This has nice animation, but isn't even that much of a game - more like an animated film.

I hope you're not put off doing it now that someone else has done it. Do it and do it better! The world needs more games with people sitting on swings!

That's true. It was really the mood of some of Ben's games that it reminded me of.

I'm sure I could probably judge it better if I knew what the hell was going on, or what I was doing... What a confusing game.

If ben wrote flash games, he'd make tiny little awesome but short prototypes that leave you yearning for more but never develop any of them beyond the prototype stage.

As for the game in question, I don't know, no art games caught my attention as much as Passage and Blueberry Garden. Too often art games makers forget that games are made of rules, goals and decisions, or they simply try too hard to make it artsy, that game felt a little bit like both. But the swing scene was awesome.

I really must agree. I was very confused. It felt like I was being repeatedly hit in the head with the plot but still couldn't make any sense out of it. Not a nice feeling.

I liked the animations though, very well done.

I kinda enjoyed it. It had you figuring out the story, rather than some puzzles.

In any case you have to give the creator kudos for experimenting. Need more of that.

I liked it. Very sweet and full of symbolism, just how i like it.

That's certainly one of the best games I've ever played. Just that. I was very unwilling to give it a try, and I'm glad I finally decided to play it. It's a great game. Short sweet. I heartily suggest this to anyone. My score 10/10.

The music was also great. On a side note comparing this to Ben304 (at this time at least) is wrong. Cause Ben doesn't make such kind of games. Regardless I value Ben304 a lot and everyone knows that (including Ben). Just the comparison is wrong. Both excel at great games, but not of the same style and genre.

Ii disagree.
Not in that it's a great game, as it is quite fantastic, but I do think it bears some similarity to Bens games with the slightly trippy D&M running throughout.

The games Ben personally makes are nowhere near this depressing and boring.

Great stuff. This is art - not a game. I really loved the enactment of it. really dense and to the point.

Reminded me of another "game" that dealt with the dullness and repetitiveness of everyday life:
Desert Bus

I just played a game on Newgrounds, called One Chance (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/555181).
I thought I'd post it here because it reminded me of EDTSD, not least because the format is almost identical.

And on a completely different subject, if you're into these little flash adventure games where you must click on objects in a certain order to make your character reach the next room, give a look at Fallen From The Moon (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/555386).

Yep, I played it yesterday, it is delightfully charming (if a little simple).
