Isotown!

http://www.isotown.net/index.php

It's awesome.

A webcomic, basically watching a town grow and grow. I highly recommend you go and read it from the beginning.

HolyJack

Very special. The writing in reminiscent of a children's book or something. The drawings are great.

radiowaves

Nothing spectacular, gfx is quite dull and boring.
But I remember I had a similar project once... only for a strategy game. I got quite a bit done, in very miniature but realistic scale ofcourse..
I am just a shallow stereotype, so you should take into consideration that my opinion has no great value to you.

I liked how the police came and arrested the guy who lived across from the construction site.

Stupot

I just read it from beginning to end and will certainly be keeping an eye on it...
...one thing that bothered me though was this...

Spoiler
What the hell was up with that random dinosaur incident?... after going through all the pages admiring the steady growth of the town and the special incidents were a great touch.  Then there's possible drama... a suicide bid... and a dinosaur come and rescues him???  What a cop-out.

What would be really good would be if he had some kind of murder mystery, or some Lost-style mysteries...
Spoiler
But not dinosaurs for crying out loud

Stupot: The incident you mention was a shout-out to Qwantz and Dinosaur Comics who gave the guy quite a bit of advertising.

Stupot

Yeh I realise that, but it could've been a bit more subtle.
Still I admire what he's doing there and I'm a new fan despite that incident.

Well, I like the ISO style there, but  can't help being really annoyed by all the practical flaws there. For starters, all the buildings are built in a fashion that's just. Well, I don't think the creator has any idea how to build a block of flats. Then the radio thing, that is almost bigger than the Eifel tower. And takes more space than the market. And then, who are all these hotels and markets and stuff for? For the two people living there? Quite frankly, a town usually exceeds to at least 2000 people before they get their huge market and a reason for people to visit a hotel there. Unless I misunderstood, and it's some big city suburb. Oh, and wtf is it with all the stop signs?

Stupot

Yeh, but.

Spoiler
It has dinosaurs

So it cant really be expected be be 100% realistic...

voh

Man, why do people get hung up over whether it's realistic or not?

I just think it's a delightfully creative project and enjoy it as such :)
Still here.

ManicMatt

How quaint! It's cute! I got bored around page 79 or something though.. but when you're reading it knowing you're gonna go town and buy Bioshock that's not surprising...  ;)

This is kind of cute! The comic parts are fun, but for me the iso part is incredibly boring. Especially if you have to wait a month each time for the guy to draw one. Think I'll stick to playing Sim City myself :p I bet 10 bucks the person that makes it still plays with LEGO.

Tuomas

Legos are most productive and developing though. Yeah, I do like the idea, I've always had fantasies about things like these (creating iso goodness), thus I am or was a simcity whore. I guess what irritates me is the fact that I think I could do better :P

m0ds

Haha!! Radiowaves & Miez on an iso project...

Hey, cool! Someone posted my comic. Thanks Kinoko.

Hello everyone. I'm the maker of Isotown.

Yeah, Isotown is a bit unrealistic, and I really have no idea how actual construction is done. None of those things are really important, I don't think. And besides, I want Isotown to be a bit quirky. The real idea is just a growing town. The project started as my own personal entertainment and practice, and after finding people liked it, I made it into a comic.

And yes there are always people who don't find the concept very interesting for very long (or at all). Thanks for stopping by anyway.

Thanks again for posting, and taking a look. Welcome to Isotown, new readers.

I sometimes play with lego, lol. Some habits just won't dissapear, and I never grow up :P
Who is Miez?

Cool, nice to meet you! You're lucky because I liked the concept very much AND I found it interesting.

I really like that you keep it simple for the most part and have a bit of a splash out every now and again. I think it matches the medium. Pixel art for me is most enjoyable when people can achieve an effect with very little. As a good example, one tiny blue pixel and I'm all of a sudden fascinated with a blue jay.

I also really like how up front you are about everything in the project in the actual text. You're not wanky or mysterious about it. There's a really nice mix of making the "story" work, plus, "Hey, I'm an actual person creating this and these are my thoughts".

Anyway, I admire it quite a bit. Good luck with it ^_^

Nice to meet you.
I relly like what you've got going there, but one suggestion:
How about a storyline?  Maybe some female interest, a whodunnit murder mystery, or some strange goings on ala LOST.
You're good at creating intrigue (what with the 'lone pipe' episode) so how about taking it a step further?

I might swing by the isotown forums later and get acquainted.

Isotown is pretty neat but I notice some of the art doesn't exactly follow ISO rules (at least not as far as I can tell).  Stuff like some of the sign lettering and certain angles seem off.  It's not really a big deal for casual viewers I'm sure, and I found parts of it quite amusing...though at one point Iso Ian's tomato patch was abandoned altogether and left in full bloom while the focus changed to other things.  It's an interesting idea, though!

Thank you Kinoko, that's a really nice post :D Made me happy

ProgZmax: Lettering that seems off is probably due to lack of any anti-aliasing in the earlier times of drawing Isotown. Now I use my own anti-aliasing to make things look a bit more natural on signs (like on the Pesh Radio sign.. as well as the sign of the next building as you will see tomorrow)

And yes, I figured there was no point in continuing the tomato patch cycle.

Also, there really isn't much activity on the forums.
