Frequent visitors of #ags might have noticed that I've been absent from the channel for the past week or two. Basically, a certain op or ops have made the channel inhospitable for several people, but mostly me. I'm willing to bet that whenever CJ is present in the channel, said op(s) is/are absent from the channel. Other ops just sit there, idling most of the day, and are useless 3/4 of the time they're "present". People are discouraged from arguing with ops, for they are gods!!!
Basically, I've had it, and I really don't think I'm going back there anytime soon. Hey, at least this will give me more time to work on my game.
(Point of this post: explanation of my absence from the channel, if anybody gives a shit)

Damnit Terran, yeah, I know that very often it happens that the ops are not there when they are needed most, but that's not the reason to abandon the majority of the AGS community, a lot of them will miss you.
I'm only abandoning the channel. The forums I'll stay in, obviously, as well as continue to moderate the beginners' forum.

I just downloaded mIRC less than a week ago so I could get in on the conversations, and get to know my fellow AGSers a little bit better... looks like I'll be getting to know one less person... :'(
Well hey, if it makes you feel any better, I've only been there 5 or 6 days... and I've never spoken with @Roger, but I get the idea that he doesn't like me a whole lot (just because of the way I am sometimes).

Well sure, even ops feel that way :) Generally the people who get bothered are people who won't stop arguing about any little thing, ever, or until everyone has each other on ignore, and that includes Annie. I personally am very tired of it so I'm glad if people feel do feel discouraged. Unless there really was a big sensible argument where people were treated unfairly recently that I missed I think you are over dramatising things.. you did try to leave the channel a while ago to work on your game, so this new incentive not to spend time chatting might not be such a bad thing ;) I personally don't think either side has been particularly sensible in the arguments between Annie and certain members of the channel, they are always seem so petty, and at least some of the time just caused by a will to argue for no particular reason.
I might have got this all wrong though and you're referring to something else.. but I certainly don't think the ops are useless (they do idle a bit too much though), I don't think people would react favourably to more moderation in the channel, we're mostly just there to kick out people who are intentionally causing a nuisance, and that is usually done within minutes in my experiance. I'm not quite sure what you're asking for the ops to do. Sorry if I've in any way offended you myself btw...

Personally, I think that we complain about #ags too much - it is actually quite a fun place. Sure ocasionally we get some clanners or something annoying everyone, but we don't actually
need the ops that often, so they can idle all they like. And when they are active, they are good at their job - they were chosen for a reason you know.
Also Terran - is it Annie you were refering to? I believe Annie is a very good op, she does what is needed in the channel, no matter what.

you actually know that isn't the only reason you're still banned, CJ set the ban because you constantly played with the bots even when you were asked not to, then you kept ban evading, so you have nobody to blame but yourself, and if you knew anything about irc you would know it isn't possible for me to ban you from a channel i'm not an op in

Yeah, and that's another thing. Apparently many of the oldies have left because of BOYD (according to SOMEone). I mean, God, I wish I had THAT kind of influence to disrupt an entire channel like that. You're amazing, BOYD, tell me how DID you do it???
I have been present at #ags during a few clashes... but there is no-one I wanted to leave #ags. On some occasion I wonder why are there so many @'s on the name list yet none operators seem to be present. Not always we need ops, but AFAIHaveSeen, they are there when needed.
Some clashes have evolved from people abusing bots and not following any op's requests to stop it... Have I done that?
And as vwg already said, Annie is a good op. From the way certain people have spoke about her, I get the impression that they don't like her. But I do... She's the only one who's ever kicked me... but for a reason, I was acting like a fool...
There are some community members who are disliked on #ags, as can be seen from the quotefile aswell, and I admit I have taken part in showing it, but I have never meant it.
I regret that I see some people there so rarely. I have had conflicts with people, but I have never held anything against anybody.

Sure, there are times when she's a good op, but most of the time that *I* have been there, she constantly picks fights, insults people randomly, and can't take a goddamn JOKE. But didn't I say I wasn't going to mention names? Oh well.

BOYD probably dislikes certain people because they have shown a dislike toward him. I really don't see the problem with BOYD anyway. I find that he is probably the only person in the channel worth having a conversation with. Aparently people don't like how he complains about things and bashes things. Well, other people do it too, especially someone else we know that accuses BOYD of doing it, so I really don't see the problem. I mean, if a person can complain about work all the time on the channel, then why can't someone else complain about life in general? There are couple of reasons why I don't hang out at #AGS much these days.
The main reason is that I can't relate to the people that hang out there as well as I used to. I kind of miss the conversations with Helm, Andail, CJ and the like. I think intellectual (debates or just general helpfulness) discussion is forbidden, forgotten or just of no interest now. To me it seems like most of the discussion is just for killing time. And it just leaves me with the feeling I could have used the time in a better way. But that's just me.
In addition, the atmosphere isn't quite as positive and sincere as it used to be, in my opinion. I'm not really a fan of swearing and stuff like that. It makes the atmosphere hostile for no reason. Just because people have got used to using the futile words.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I think I know where Terranrich comes from. People are different and all don't get along. We better just spend less time interacting and more time creating games because that's what we all have the same. You can't go wrong with that.

the difference with me is that i at the very least try to get on with and accept other people, if other people did the same instead of just getting offended easily there wouldn't be a problem, some people need to grow up instead of just thinking they're grown up.

I hardly go on #ags, it's true -- I only go on if there's someone I'm looking for.
But, it's not cause there are hard-arsed ops or snooby oldies.
It's cause there are OTHER channels out there -- more channels than ice cream flavours at Baskin and Robbins.
I have other interests besides adventure games.
So big fucking deal you don't want to go on #ags -- who cares?
Find another channel -- or better yet start your own AGS channel with your own rules.
