Ok, I'm drawing a dvd-case cover for my own ags-game, and I have a question about this. What should be the size of the image to be the right size, when you print it out. How do I know wich size I should use?
Can't you just use a ruler and measure a DVD cover you already have?
Apparently (as 30 seconds of googling told me :P) the usual dimensions are 5.25 inches (133 mm) by 7.5 inches (191 mm) for the front/back cover, and half an inch (13 mm) for the spine.
Or you could use print preview at 100% and measure it against the size of your DVD case
You should use Nero Cover Designer. It prints the right size
You can download it here (http://www.nero.com/en/last-version.php). It's about 20 megs though, so if you're using a crappy modem (like I am >:(), it might not be worth the download (if you're printing just one cover that is...)
What you want to do is visit http://www.dvdcoverart.com (http://www.dvdcoverart.com) and down the left hand side there is a link to some JPEG templates they host.
Tis simple, no?
;D
MS Word is actually pretty nifty. You just gotta work it, baby.
I use Powerpoint for all that crap. Measure label, make template in PP, print, go. I've done DVD-covers, CD-labels, Cassette Labels and others. Template programs are crap unless they've got a grand variety and decent customization capability. The dimensions quoted earlier are correct, by the way, for a standard case.
I like the hard cases with the clear plastic cover, and if you pull it out and measure it it's about the same size.
It's good to make a little extra. Bleed over the edge of what you want so you have nice edges when cut.
Standard graphics for printing is 300DPI or 300 dots of color per inch. A 3x5 photograph can be reproduced at 300dpi (image would be 900x1500 pixels).
Or crack it up to 900 DPI or 1200 DPI to get all the detail!!!
m0ds,
I agree. I import graphics and place them anywhere and can place text anywhere.
Then print it as a Print Quality PDF file so everyone can open it. All the source files are in the PDF. Acrobat Pro 6 is great.
