Right. I'm at a loss.
None of my audio programs will let me record with my microphone anymore. I can hear my voice just fine through the speakers, yet pressing "record" does nothing. I've tried using Audacity, the built-in recorder program, and done the "test hardware" thing in the control panel. None of them work.
Any ideas are appreciated. All my sound drivers are updated, so it's nothing to do with that. I think.
Make sure that in the windows volume control that both playback and recording have mic included and not muted. I had that problem before but it wa a while ago now and it was just simply one or the other was muted, sorry I can't remember which.
Nope. Nothing is muted. I do notice that the "Advanced" tab for sound recording is greyed out. I can't remember if it was the same way before.
Did you try to make mic the selected one in recording? This is probably not even the cause of your problem but it was my first thought as what could be the problem. I'm pretty sure it is something simple like this. Do you have another audio program that controls sound to the speaker? Alot of sound boards come with their own control program.
Actually, I think I got it working. I changed "microphone" to "line in" and now, for some reason, it works fine. Woo.

well, i could be this:
in mic plug (i think) i a phantow power meaning, it sends elecricyti to the microphone so you can talk to it, however some microphones have batteries inside so they don't need this electricyti, but still it should work, i had this proplem at a meeting where suddenly 2 microphones didn't work, then we found out that the phantow power had been turned off so we turned it on
bu sstill, i don't think that's the proplem

Could very much be so...
Or there might be a hardware misconnection, because choosing line in in the mixer outputs the mic signal...
