Yes scumm, by Amerimittens I meant like Brittens.

And just out of curiosity, if Australia is out of the picture... What other countries are (prospectivally) left to visit? :-p

If it's Germany, I'd really try to get my ass over there.

I was just playing too, lgm.  Perhaps I should have inserted a wink of my own.   ;) Nebraska is boring.  I wouldn't recommend it for Mittens unless you're looking for... you're looking for... aww crap...

PsychicHeart

i suppose the reason australia is definitely out is because it's too far away from everyone? damn.

I think the reason we haven't had an Amerritens or whatever one would call is, is because the immense effort it would take to organize it. Brittens works so well because Britain is a smaller country and it's less of a hassle for people to gather at some location. I'm not saying people don't go out of their way, but the United States is around forty times larger than Britain. I think the wisest thing to do, would be to split up into different regions. Anyone would have free range to go to a particular one, in case you really wanted to meet a particular member. But I think the point in an American get together, apart from Mittens, is to not spend a lot of money. It's more for those who can't afford to go the a Mittens event, or for those who can afford both. And if we looked at the AGS map, when it was up, there are plenty of people in the U.S. to go around. I know we wouldn't get to meet everyone, but I think this would yield more people showing up, and really if you want to meet everyone go to Mittens (at least you'll meet people from around the globe). How we'd split up the regions is really up to those willing to host.

Well, I wouldn't say no to hosting an Amerimittens. I WILL be 18 by then, Andail.

Why was that age-thing aimed at me?

Oh, and Amerittens (or whatever) sounds like a good idea, nothing prevents you from seing eachother as much as you fancy. I just meant that the official "Mittens" meeting might want to visit other nations before going to america again.

The main reason why I'd like to see mittens australia is that it seems to be the only opportunity to meet DG and Las.

Layabout

Well some of those suggested holland. In a hostel... near a coffee shop...

And beer...

Lots of beer.

...And coffee..........?

Haddas

And Holland! I'll be 18 by then, so you're probably raising the limit to 19?

Hobbes

Holland and Germany both sound like good options to me. :)

But seeing as I live in Holland, that's a bit biased...

deadsuperhero

It would be convienient if it was in the MidWest, like Illinois or somethnig, because it's pretty nice out there, and there's a lot of great places to go to and all that.

That statement could apply to absolutely any place imaginable.

I agree, Holland and Germany do sound good as I believe the majority of AGSers are European.

Australia is also another good idea but the prices of flights are astronomical and I doubt most people would want to pay for just a week.

As for America I think this is out of te question, as will be Britain, Greece and Sweden. I think global travel and jet-setting is a far better idea (Different place every year).

Hong Kong could be interesting but if Gil is the only HK member he would have to organise the whole thing.

Other countries / areas to explore : Carribean; I know a company that organises flights and everything so we could spend the week sailing the Carribean like real pirates. - http://www.tallships.org/
Tier did this for a couple of days in the Irish Sea, said it was good.

Another possibility could be Spain, Israel, Japan, Finland etc...

Best to see what is discussed in Greece and were people want to go, although usually someone there will say "I'll host it" but I'm not sure if any new countries are being represented this year.

Well, if we were to split the US into regions, I'd think a Mid-Atlantic region would be in order.  If I had a house, I'd offer it up as a meeting place (I live in DC) but alas I have a one bedroom apartment.  Still, DC would be a good place to meet up, no?

Setting up a national Amerittens would be a serious undertaking and I don't know about many of you, but I've got a job and can't take a week off (though I might be getting laid off, so unemployment here I come) but a long weekend would be doable.

I guess people usually go the camping route because it's cheapest.  There are a lot of camp grounds in the DC metro area...one is actually on this cool island just outside of the city.

Would there be many people that could make it to DC for a three or four day regional meeting?  I would seriously consider volunteering to put something together if A) there were enough people to make it worth the trouble and B) we could plan for a date that would leave me enough time to make the plans and get time off work.

Well, I've been residing in Hong Kong for the last couple of years now and as far as my plans go, I'll be staying here for a long time to come.Ã,  Ã, Hong Kong is an exciting place and lots of stuff to see and do with such a mix of cultures as well.Ã,  You could meet my Sifu (Martial Art Teacher) and I here and do Tai-Chi in the park with us, or if you're feeling brave come take a Jujitsu lesson from me as wellÃ,  ;) .Ã,  Also, my Sifu was a professional Tour-Guide for over 30 years, so if we knew a group was coming in, we could probably arrange a nice little sight-seeing kinda tour.

My apartment is rather tiny, (most prison cells would probably be larger), as are most apartments in Hong Kong, so I can't really offer to put anyone up (tough if someone was really desperate, parhaps I could throw out a foam-matress on the floor for someone to sleep on) , so, you would have to arrange to stay at a hotel or somesuch, or if I knew people were really interested in coming here, my Sifu and I could perhaps look into helping people booking a resonably priced hotel for anyone coming or we could find out more information in that regards. Also, Hong Kong can be a bit expensive, but, if you are budget minded and careful with your spending, you could still have a great time.Ã,  There are lots of "street markets" to browse around and shop at too if you're looking to pick up things for a cheaper price (souvenirs and such).

Well, I just throw the idea out there for you to consider. Myself, I'm a bit tight on the budget now, so I can't much afford to travel any where outside Hong Kong for now, so it would be wonderful to see some of you come here.Ã,  Ã, But hey, even if there is never a "Mittens" meeting in Hong Kong, if any AGSer happens to be passing through Hong Kong way sometime, you could always feel welcome to PM me a message and let me know you're coming and we could arrange to meet and hang-out for some fun.

Best wishes.

My parents would probably never allow it, but I have a fairly large yard...well, enough for the people who live within range to camp out on (4.5 acres), and I think it would be fun to have a little Tex-iteens...may have to work on that name though...

*Potential host for Texas Amerimittens*

But then I don't know how many people are from Texas (or possibly east Louisiana...o_0).  I don't think it's that many is it???  *we need a members map...-_-*

Layabout

I think anywhere in euope would be good... I'd like somewhere on the spainish coast. Or holland, or germany or any western european country. Perhaps we should look for the country with the cheapest beer and hold it there.
