Good to see you back again, it's been a while.  I'll check out the video when I have some more time.  For anyone who doesn't know what Parkour is, a quick google search will lead to some great learning sites.    :)

-Cheers

Parkour is also known as Free Running. It's awesome, but I wouldn't call it a sport myself, as it has no real scoring system as such. Don't get me wrong, I love watching it but I just wouldn't call it a sport.

Erm... Jogging is a sport :P You really don't need a scoring system to have a sport.
And the doers of this sport, actually call it a lifestyle. For some reason...^^

SPHINX (http://www.americangirlscouts.org/snarkywiki/), the open-collaboration game project I'm working on, has a plot that involves Parkour, or at least a sport inspired by (http://www.americangirlscouts.org/snarkywiki/index.php/The_Fall) Parkour. If you're interested, there might be ways you could help out, which would be great!

It is rather fun and exhilerating(sp) I should say.  I love it.  Around where I live though, it's hard to find a nice place to do it.  There aren't a lot of suburbian rails and walkways to practice on, so I mainly use stairs.  There's a grand staircase coming off West Mountain that's great to run on  :).  Fond memories...

Parkour and Free Running are different, though the names are now used interchangably. The description of which will follow.

Now the debate of what is a sport and what isn't - Keen.

Parkour does have a quantifiable scale: Time. Think of it like slalom skiing, the quickest time to the end of the course while passing through the gates.  Parkour is about efficiency - overcoming obstacles in the least amount of time with the least amount of wasted energy.

Free Running, on the other hand, has both time and an artistic component, involving and not exclusive to, flips, vaults, and rolls. This is more like the mogul event in skiiing, there is the time component and a jump component.

Both are sports, parkour is a traditional style sport and free running  is more artistic.
