This is OT I guess, but go to garage sales and find cheap comps and search the web for info on it (most of them use Linux). The X-box is a good alternative because it is a lot of power (733 mhz) for not a lot of money in comparison to computers. Here is one guy trying to do it.

Yeah, garage sales for me too. Junk days are great ones too. But I get most of my stuff out of the dumpster behind my dad's work...
