Title: Poker players in AGS community
Post by: on Thu 12/07/2007 03:48:44
Just out of curiosity, how many of you fellows play poker or some similar game like 3-card-Brag?

Maybe someone will someday make a game in ags about poker!

EDIT: my fav. game is Omaha

For about a year during college, online pay was my only form of income, but I wasn't good enough to make a consistent amount of money.  I still play online occasionally just for fun, no big money.  And when I'm in a country that has poker (Japan is largely devoid of the sport except for the rare foreigner homegame) I always make a point to get to the casino for a day of poker.

Last time I was in America, I hit the casino for a fun eight hour stretch.  I started with $300 and left with $320.  But it was a ton of fun.  I just love playing the game.

If there were enough people interested, it would fun to put together an AGS tourney on PokerStars or something, though it would be tough to work out a good time.

Edit to bicilotti:  I'm from Omaha (but I don't like the game unless it's hi-lo)

We played some poker during Mittens 2005, in between those numerous - and rather lengthy - sessions of 50000000 blank cards.

Holla!

My best game is WHORE. That's

Without Stud High
Hold'em
Omaha/8
Razz
Eights or better Stud

Goldmund hangs around the poker scene (so I know he has mad shorthanded skills, yo) and I've had a weird encounter with Boyd, but I don't know if he actually plays. Yeah, I'm in for a tourney.

This WHORE thing is interesting, I always miss the change between stud/stud8/razz in HORSE game

(like

me: "nut low, ship it |\|003!"
guy: "that's stud high, moron"
me: "ah"

)

This shithead http://www.pagat.com/beating/shithead.html ?

And 7 they were playing good ol' texas hold'em. If we reach 10 quota we can start thinking seriously about a nonserious tournament

That shithead! (I'm pretty sure there's only one!) ...but different rules. Everyone seems to play it slightly differently.

Poker is boring.

I stick with chess. Even though haven't played in a while.

I play NLHE. I'll join if there's a tourney at Stars.

The highlight of my career was (through tons of luck) qualifying for the Main Event at the WSOP (in Vegas) last year. I only lasted 1 day though :(

Nice accomplishment Neil, I've never been in Vegas. Played with someone famous?

I enjoy playing Hold'em in real life for a couple of hours at a time, but if it goes on much longer than that I start to get bored.

I have to say, I really don't see the point of internet poker -- if you can't try to read the other players faces and trade banter with them, it's just not the same game at all.

I used to play at www.instantchess.com, but since I am not going to pay for such thing I now play randomly in www.flyordie.com (user: ink956) and weeks lasting letter chess on www.gameknot.com (user: tint).

No, unfortunately no pokercelebs at my tables, mainly hyper-aggressive internet qualifiers... but tons of them elsewhere in the room of course.

Two hours is a bit short? I usually need 4-6 hours to rip off my friends!

I prefer live poker too, much more fun. On the net, you have to find other ways to make reads, mainly from betting patterns. So it's sort of more limited, but it's the same game, experience to be made (it's much faster than live, so you'll experience tons of different scenarios in much less time), and some money to make :)

Texas Hold 'Em, Blackjack and very occassionally Cheat. I agree with Neil, 2 hours CJ?
Anyway, i'd be up for a tourney of some sort. Sounds fun.

My girlfriend's father and brother are really good at Hold'em, so I signed up for PokerStars to get practice. I play occasionally. My user is 'hday' if anyone's online and wants to play with my terrible self.

Nothing like a good game of Bullshit either. If no one wants to play poker at my house, we play Bullshit instead.
