I'm in.
Renting CJ a guitar (even an "expert" one) seems like good payback for AGS.

The Inquisitive Stranger

You could always give the guitar to Old Skool Squinky...
Actually, I HAVE worked on a couple of finished games. They just weren't made in AGS.

Nacho

He has refused to accept it "directly"  ;).
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Tuomas

Umm, dude, at least double the price. That must be worth more money. umm, can't you take it to one of these places where they give you money and let you buy it back later when you have some. And if you don't, they'll sell it forward?

Barbarian

Squinky: Seriously, I have much respect for you, and my heartfelt prayers and wishes goes out to you and your family.  Even though I'm a bit hurtin' on the financial myself lately, I'd try and scrape up another $25 for the "Save Squinky's Guitar Fund".
If I had the whole amount to spare that you were asking for, I'd buy it outright and set the mailing address as your home address.

And, even though you say you don't want to accept our donations, and I totally understand your feelings on this, give it a second thought at least. Anyways, it's for a good cause, and over the years you've given a lot of people here a lot of enjoyment and happy memories with your games you've shared with us plus your great personality on the forums here.  Even though I don't know ya personally, I still feel as though you're a friend.

Best wishes.

Mongol General: "That is good."

Yes, think of it as late payment for those shareware Pirate Fry games.

I agree with barbarian altough i dont live in us and 25 dollars would cost me in my curruncy about 150 bucks I cant really contribute at this time either... :(

But after sing that man I feel like selling my left kidney... no wait my right kidney to fund the money.

I wouldnt be able to part with that Id rather sell my pc. To be honest.

If you think about it you almost have 200 bucks already and th nid is only at 260 i think.. Three or four members more to save your guitar fund and well you wont need to sell it!

PS: Please dont part with such a piece of artwork not to mention such a piece of your soul!

You guys rock so much, seriously. I couldn't have joined and spent years of my life in a better forum. It's crazy that you guys would offer such a thing, and I am amazed. I can't really even describe in words how cool you guys are.

I love the idea of giving it to CJ, but hate to say there are some issues that would probably make it impractical. One being that it weighs 15 lbs (7 kilograms?) and the packing alone at a shipping place runs $27 USD. I wouldn't even want to think about how much that would cost to ship overseas.

Another issue, is that my Guitar (I nicknamed her FoxyMomma, I know I am cheesy) is a good guitar, but probably worth more to someone who is specifically into that type of guitar. I wouldn't recomend it for a beginner, as the strings are the heaviest strings available for an electric, and the action (the distance from the fretboard to the strings) is quite hard. It would simply kill Chris'es hands, and make the skin wear off his fingers, although I have heard from various sources that he does have an uncanny grip...

If you guys want to get Chris a guitar, I say go for it (It is an awesome idea, and would be a great way of showing our gratitude to him). Buy mine if you really want to, but know it would probably be more affordable to order him a new one from the UK.

That said, you guys are free to do as you please, but if you do continue on, I just like to say thank you for the enormous show of caring, and beg you all not to put yourselves in financial hardship in this process.

I may have a new job come monday, so to be honest, I would buy the frigging thing if my salary would come soon enough (but sadly, even if I am hired on monday, it'll take another 1,5 months to get my first 1000 euro...)...

I just don't want to see situations like these - I understand why you're doing it, but selling your big love is just so painful. As a fellow musician, I can envision feeling fucking heartbroken by it, and I would be willing to give some of my money away to spare you that.

I'm a relative newbie here, but I understand that it can be necessary to chip in. If it's at all possible, I would happily chip in as much as is needed (well, max. of 50, as paypal is my only means of international money transfer ;)) to make it so that you can keep your guitar.

Just accept it, if we're able to do it. You're a part of a community I care deeply about. That makes you an awesmoe (typo on purpose) person by default.

So yeah. Keep the guitar, take our money, pay the trip, and realise how fucking amazing the internet can be from time to time. Your pride is of no importance here, ours is  ;)

I'm short on cash right now, too.  I'm selling a lot of stuff to earn a little extra bread, such as my games, action figures, comic books and cards, and stuff, but I would NEVER think of selling either one of my guitars.

I've had my black strat-style Lotus since I was 16.  My mom bought it for me at a garage sale for $30.  By now I'm sure it's worth even less, but to me it's invaluable.

I don't have $25, but I'd be willing to pitch in a few dollars... unless you guys will accept Visa...  :P

BTW: Don't feel bad, Squinky.  You're not cheesy for naming your guitars.  I do it too.  I named my Lotus "Linda", after my mom (obviously, because she bought it for me).  And I named my Ibanez "The Underdog", because the Ibanez that I originally wanted got sold before I could come up with the money for it.  So, I bought the only other Ibanez like it in the store.

My Condor Les Paul will be called the "Black Arrow" once I get to painting the darn thing :)

??? Les Paul = "The Black Arrow"?

When you first said the nickname, I kept thinking of a Flying V, but then I re-read and caught the Les Paul part...

Ok.  Now you are obligated to explain.

Squinky: I understand you not wanting to take money from people online, and I know I'd do the same in your place. If you don't want to put yourself in that position, and we can't give you the money in some indirect way that will not injure your pride, then all I am left is with the sentiment: I am sorry you'll have to give your guitar away, and think it's awful that you'll have to. There's more important things in each of our lives than your guitar fund that we should probably donate to, but that doesn't cancel out the fact that your guitar situation flat-out sucks and my instinctive reaction is 'No. This will not happen'. Juvenile perhaps, but that's me and that's that.

If you keep it, awesome. If you sell it, you have your other guitar, and besides the musician fetishism we [the people in this thread considering giving you money] probably all share, it's what you play on it and whom you share the music with that counts in the end so I'm sure you'll make new awesome with your other guitar. If somebody figures out a way for us to help without it seeming like charity, I'm still on board for that.

SSH: please be quiet.

We've tried to teach CJ how to play the guitar a few times. Once he composed "Ode to a Note", which was played by tapping one of the strings repeatedly.
He definitely has talent.

Nikolas

Ok!

25$ (plus VAT and currency and all) would be something like 25£ (new windows, new keyboard, btw... lol)

Count me in guys. Even if Squinky said no.

Ok.Ã,  Now you are obligated to explain.

I'm painting it mat black, and it'll have a glossy dark red arrow pointing away from the neck. Hence the Black Arrow. The arrow is technically red, but the guitar itself is black. It's one of those "don't ask" things ;)

Well, since the auction at this point will be over in 3 hours, and I don't think I can stop it ethically, it looks like I'm going to be packing her up soon. Which I can deal with.

Thanks everybody for understanding, and for the cool ideas. Sorry it didn't work out, but know that I appreciate the gesture as if it did.

I still think you guys shouldn't abandon the idea of getting Chris a guitar. I personally couldn't pitch in at this point, but I'm sure something could get rolling.
