The answer is in the question, or rather, the question is in the title.
Esseb has suggested that the Photoshop Contest run monthly rather than weekly.
(see here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=17811.0)
Would a month be too long for a competition though? Perhaps fortnightly would be better...
The advantages I can think of for a longer contest would be more time to work on entries, more time for entries to come in and longer for people to come up with exciting topics.
Any objections, or should we give it a go?
Not that I involve myself in it at all, but I suggest fortnightly.
Listen to my wisdom.
I say we give it a try at a month.Ã, See what happens.
I know that sometimes I don't want to enter because I don't have the time to make an entry worth displaying.Ã, Same with the BG Blitz contest.Ã, Extending the time-line would change that I think.
I would also suggest, with the extended time-line, we add ... something ... to the rules/guidelines.Ã, Make it a little more interesting/challenging.Ã, I don't really know what, I just thought I'd add it to the discussion.
Anyway ... I vote "Yay" to the question.
But one of the cool things of Photoshops Ph...day is that it is weekly, it makes the activity very dynamic IMO. If we're going for high quality photoshops, like the one Sintetyque ran this week, we should give two weeks, but I would vote "no" for the monthly competition.
There are people making a whole game in a month, which must imply backgrounds (or at least one), animations, scripting... we can't pretend give the same time for an activity that can be made in hours.
I am not attacking the photoshop artists, I think they make really cool things, I like to make lots of photoshops by myself, (some of them including male nude pornstars and CJ's head), but I think Makri showed this week that nice things can be done in hours.
hmm, maybe you should try fortnightly first?

Eeeer...
Yes, monthly.
I only enter the background blitz and I normally find myself waiting for it to be over for the next one. I ind that two weeks is enough. Im not sure about Photoshop Phriday though since Ive never enterred.
Well, it looks like a week is too short. I'm all for 2 week submissions, but I don't think a month is too long either.
I'll say monthly, that way we won't run away with ideas that quickly.
But that means there's got to be better ideas.
Fourtnightly sounds reasonable, it should allow for more entries... although the standard for the comp has dropped imo!!!
Try two weeks, not a month. I think a two week trial will give everyone a better idea of if more time helps them. Then if two weeks isn't enough for some, bump it up to a month. Either way, I agree more time might help.
Since Makri has a strong topic let's see it last for a fortnight then, and we can see where things go from there.
Wow, I have never heard the word 'fortnight' before and I have larger vocabulary than most people I know... is this a non-American thing or just something I've completely missed?
Fortnight = 2 weeks = the amount of time I think the photoshop contest should be. :P
Yes, a dictionary solved that for me.

We can all learn something from the newly lengthened Photoshop Contest...
