Go see it. After I saw Pirates of the Carribean, I though I would never see a movie that would be so fun and entertaining in theaters again. I was proven wrong. I cant explain how cool and simple Snakes on a Plane is. You will also clap when Samuel L. Jackson delivers his bad ass one-liner.
I just saw it last night. I was very very very entertained. I knew the movie would be entertaining on some level, like a "so bad it's good" thing. But it was actually GOOD. Funny in the right parts, serious in the others. Scary as hell, too. Well done film, great marketing. Gonna make a ton.
It'll be here in a little over a month, so I guess I'll be seeing it when the hype is over. Glad to hear it's good, though.
I'm going to have to completely disagree with LGM that it's a good movie in the sense he means but it was still very entertaining because of the audience reaction. The title appearing on screen caused the entire place to erupt into applause and cheering. See it with an audience and it's awesome, watch it alone in your room and it will fall flat, that is my prediction!
I saw this today. Awesome movie.
And so, here's my review of it:
Well, with this being General Discussion and all that, I decided to review a wonderful movie I saw today called "Snakes on a Plane"
But before I speak of the actual movie, I must back up and speak about the theater.
I went to a theater called The Rave. I like it, mainly because of the futuristic feel to it. I halfway expect to hear beeps and boops, and the ticket machine to suck up my ticket with a vaccum. Some day soon, hopefully.
The crappy run-down games were subp-par. The Star Wars game didn't even work, which is a damn shame because I lost 50 cents on it out of my only dollar. Clearly pissed off, I played a terrible racing game instead.
The movie was great. After sitting through a couple crappy comercials and horrid previews, the movie opens to show Hawaii, a murder, and a guy on a motorcycle. Brilliant.
After the tension got high in the first 15 minutes, the action truly picked up. Some gangster had put a whole bunch of snakes on a plane in the cargo hold, all to kill a man that was going to testify against him. While he could've just popped a bullet to the guy's head, the gangster decides to be stylish by putting snakes...on a plane. Then he has his goons spray pheremones all over the lays (those flower thingies you get in Hawaii) so that the snakes will get pissed off. What happens next is pure excitement.
In this part of the movie, I saw lots of things. Boobies, weed, a snake biting a man's boner, and other random chaos. My favorite bit, though, is when a guy gets trampled, then a woman in high heels steps in his ear, and the high heel breaks off, killing the man.
There was lots of death and destruction, which is a given, due to the movie's brilliant title. Samuel L. Jackson kicked snake ass in this film, and a fat guy got bit in the ass by a snake. 50 people died, and by then I was laughing hysterically.
The acting was terrific, especially Samuel L. Jackson. What an actor! The only thing that makes his character even better is the well-written dialogue.

Whoever had the balls to write that is a true gentleman. And the man who named this movie has nuts of steel.
I can assure you, the movie has a great ending. I'm not going to give it away.

I think I have to both agree disagree with both of you, merging your opinions into some kind of horrible LGM-Mr C hybrid.
I went to see this movie with a couple of friends expecting nothing too special, just expecting...well....snakes. on a plane. I thought it might be a bit light-hearted and take the piss out of itself, but not a movie you would see many times.
But it was actually a lot better han I expected - I'd be very happy to see it again. Ridiculous title aside, I think it stands up relatively well as a movie in itself. There are bits that are a little tongue in cheek and oer the top, but a lot of it is genuine thriller material.
That said, seeing it with a good audience enhances the viewing tenfold! As long as the people around you are in the same mindset, viewing the movie as a bit of fun as opposed to some Oscar winning masterpiece, then it will stand well. People will cheer, laugh & applaud together in a way I've see for no other movie.
Watching it alone won't have the same effect.
In conclusion: I approve.
My personal favourite moment in the movie was when
Spoiler
the rapper has sat down after losing the gun and the lights go off and you hear one man in the background scream "It's the snakes!" as if they are responsible directly
But it seemed only my friends noticed that part when we were watching. Or maybe no one else found it funny.
I agree with Vwg. Cinema Magic? Nah. But a decent film and worth the watch.

Believe it or not, that line was added after the huge fan-following began. Once the fan-following began during the film's post-production, they went out shot a whole bunch of new scenes (to raise the film's rating from PG-13 to R) and included that line.
S'right. I think the line was originally simply "Enough is enough, I've had it with the snakes" and then it was made a little more...Samuel L Jackson-esque later when they reshot some scenes.
I also heard that the title was changed briefly to "Flight 121" or something less distinguishable, but Sammy J refused to film any more scenes until they changed it back.
But it's hard to tell how much of this stuff is true, expecially with a film with as much internet publicity as this.
I see your point, Eric. But as an odd individual, I'd still enjoy SoaP by myself... Though watching it with a crowd was and is 10 times better. Watch it with friends, and you'll enjoy the movie so much more.
Fuck Randy! He's my brother and I say fuck 'em!
Can't wait for someone to make 'Snakes in a game',
Lucky for us mitteneers, we had no motherfuckin' snakes on our motherfuckin' plane...
we were going to try to buy a stuffed snake and throw it into the aisle, but we forgot.
in my opinion the snakes on a plane game should be a house of the dead styled game...
Just shooting snakes, all the time... Shoot them off hostages, off a dog... It would be awesome. Especially if the airplane had like 6 floors and a dungeon
As some reviewer said is, the amount of enjoyment you'll get out of this movie is directly proportional to how much you enjoy the movies name.
The atmosphere at the movie theater was great. If you went with a packed house, it can only help the movie.

I decided not to look at this thread until I'd seen the movie, and as the running quote of Mittens was "snakes on a mothafuckin' plane" I went to see it last night. I was the only one in the theatre but that didn't bother me one bit!
Anyway, I did enjoy the movie - quite a lot! But there were some parts that just pissed me off. I wasn't watching it with a critical eye but I just noticed they didn't tie things up properly, or more importantly - interestingly. For example (spoilers ahead!):
- The camp cabin crew guy - at the end we see him with his girlfriend, in front of people who we haven't related to the cabin guy in that way with. What I mean by this is, why didn't his girlfriend jump on him in front of the Chinese guy (that thought the cabin crew guy was hitting on him) - then he could've been like "Oh, okay - so he is straight."
- Samuel L Jackson was average. His character wasn't so brilliant. And more importantly, WHERE THE ARE ALL THE MOTHAFUCKIN' REALISATION SHOTS? His FBI friend is attacked by snakes and down comes Sam without barely looking around or taking a moment to think or say "What in the name of GOD!" type thing... He later says it's something they could never have imagined, so why is it he acts as if he's seen "Snakes on a plane" a thousand times?
- TEH MAIN QUOTE! Which I was surprised about - because I thought people were just taking the piss beforehand, I had no expectation that he actually WOULD say motherfuckin snakes on a motherfuckin plane etc... BUT...that line is delivered at such an awful time. You'd think after a snake perhaps attacked him he might say that line but it suddently comes out of nowhere after some people are moaning about stuff...that annoyed me, a superb line wasted. Plus he barely swears ANYWHERE else so what provokes his character to go all Jules on us is beyond me.
None the less, I did enjoy it. The deaths were gruesome, there was tit & Keenan or Kel (whichever) was in it, which I thought was cool! So I'd give it 7/10 - but they missed a lot of moments that would have made it a true classic, IMO.
:)
I was expecting it to be so bad it would be amusing, but that simply wasn't the case. This film is something rare in cinema these days, in that it was simply entertaining.
I was enthralled and entertained in a way no movie has done in recent memory, although this was partly due to the audience I saw it with.. 3 rounds of applause throught the film and near constant laughter. But we weren't exactly laughing at the film, almost with it.
I don't thing I have enjoyed a american movie released after year 2000 but this one looks good... Will have to see it when it reach Sweden :) Btw, It can't be better than Evil Dead 2, can it?
No, not better than ED2.. Though you can't really compare the two. It's like comparing Strawberries to Apples. They're both delicious!
But strawberries are better.
They sure are ;)
So when's this film eventually going to reach the shores of Finland?
I don't know if it will, but if it does, it's probably gonna be in October.
Talking of movies in planes, someone has seen "United 93"?
Yes.. Someone has seen it. I don't know who, but someone surely has.
Sorry... I couldn't resist. Um, I haven't seen it but I would like to.
One of my teachers said it is "flawless". Yet to see it myself still :)
Mmmm ... strawberries ... *drool* :)
I've seen United 93 (but not Snakes on a Plane (yet)). Really well done. It deserved to do much better than it did. There was a made-for-TV movie that was similar (Flight 93, I think), but I haven't seen that.
It seems a little hypocritical to me that people criticized United 93 for being too soon to revisit 9/11 (especially considering Flight 93 had already been on TV), but just a few months later World Trade Center is a box-office hit. But I guess that's another topic ....
