Title: Techno-thriller + adventure games?
Post by: InCreator on Wed 22/05/2013 08:14:31
I'm looking for adventure games that have techno-thriller'ish story. Governments, conspiracies, '24' and mature stuff and so on.
All I could think of is KGB aka Conspiracy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KGB_(video_game)), which doubles as one of my favourites -- music and mood is extremely spot-on.
Does anyone know any more?

Culpa Innata is a Sci-Fi thriller with lots of things wrong with it, but is quite weirdly brilliant in other ways.

Well, that one might be too obvious, but Blade Runner (1997) (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/blade-runner) immediately came to mind...

Depending on exactly what your definition of techno-thriller is, I would have thought that both Gemini Rue and Resonance could fit the bill.

Another one would be Rise of the Dragon (http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/riseofthedragon/riseofthedragon.htm).
This game is edgy and mature, albeit a little clichéd by contemporary perception (it's more than 20 years old after all).

In a few months when it's released, The Apotheosis Project (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=47305.msg636455281#new) might be up your street as well.

Stating the obvious: Technobabylon and Beneath a Steel Sky

The first one even has techno in the name and even in the name of the creator!

"Orion Conspiracy" (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/orion-conspiracy) has conspiracy in its name :)

QuoteTechno-thrillers (or technothrillers) are a hybrid genre, drawing subject matter generally from science fiction, thrillers, spy, action and war. They include a disproportionate amount (relative to other genres) of technical details on its subject matter (typically military technology); only science fiction tends towards a comparable level of supporting detail on the technical side. The inner workings of technology and the mechanics of various disciplines (espionage, martial arts, politics) are thoroughly explored, and the plot often turns on the particulars of that exploration.

What I'm looking for is basically Jason Bourne: The adventure game.
There surely can't be that few..?

The reason why Matt Damon was not involved in the making of the Bourne Conspiracy game is that he wanted it to be an adventure game.
True fact.

Heh, it is true. It actually makes sense for Bourne though, it's all about piecing things together with very intense short bits of action between it.

I've always wanted to make an adventure game with lots of intense violence staggered throughout. No time, or patience, or focus, or talent though. :P

If you make it, they will...well it'll exist. You make it, I'll play it.
