The c-word is more vulgar then the f-word? Hmmp.

...what? I'm not comfortable with saying that one.

The C-word is generally considered to be the most offensive word in the English language...

Pfft, maybe for English people, in America we say that to our mothers over breakfast.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

I like that it's a word for gentalia that's the most offensive word ever. I personally think racial slurs are a million times worse than any "cuss" word anyone could say. Just be thankful our forum is free of that kind of attitude.

I always find it interesting that so many women get offended by the c*nt word, when so many feminists get offended that a word for OUR genitalia is considered the most horrendous word in our language.

I personally think differently, and I use the word when I damn well feel like it. I mean, SOMEONE'S genitalia has to be the really bad word, so why not women? (Okay, seriously, if I think about it back in the old days, when it WAS offensive for that very reason, I do think that's really bloody rich, but these days it's evolved... it really is only offensive because of the word itself, not it's meaning).

Honestly, I think in a few years it's gonna go the same way f*ck did. People will just get over it. It's NOT offensive in nature, it's only offensive because you were brought up to believe it is. Same as all swearwords.

I see, my casual dropping of the f-bomb.  Got it.  I've been very good lately.

Whoever complained still hasn't had the courage to come forward and PM me personally about it.

Here's another big complaint I have about making people afraid to swear. "F-bomb" is like nails on a chalkboard for me. It's got to be the stupidest word ever created. No offense to you, Blackthorn... I'm just saying that I can't stand it :P I prefer f*ck or even "the F-word" any day of the week.

Oh, me too.Ã,  In fact, I find most euphemism for curse words to be abhorrent.Ã,  But, however, as my casual usage of the slang word "to copulate" is offending someones sensibilities, I'm not using it currently.

It appears that the offending use of the word occured in the "games in production" section, as I see - I try to keep my swearing to this forum, but a certain thread in there was full of vultures, unfairly swooping in on someone.  I got angry; I used some angry words.  It happens.

This discussion seems to come up a couple times a year and, usually, the conclusion is the same: Try to avoid adult language in a forum that's frequented by younger people and sometimes seen over the should of adults by children.  If it happens out of habit or as vigorous emphasism for something then so be it.  At least, that was my understanding.  I personally, see no harm in it when there's actual content around it.  If swear words aren't used as the most meaningful words in a sentence, then at least it retains some merit.

And, I'd much rather see 'offensive' text on a page than questionable pictures - it's less embarassing and a bit more safe-for-work.

Seems like the whole concept of adult language is very anglo-saxon.

I know children who live in Marseilles (France) for instance, who have absolutely no qualms about using such words as “connard”, “con” (and it sounds like “kong”, with the accent).

No such censoring exists in Parisians, I believe. The few times I've spent time in Spain, I did not notice anybody being careful. In Barcelona, “hijo de puta” (was it?) were flying out the windows ...

I believe it's very much a cultural thing, hence some people being head-on against “it”, and other not able to care less.

Snarky

On the other hand, I recently read about how difficult it was to put up Shakespeare's 'Othello' in Paris, even well into the twentieth century, because the words "handkerchief" and "strawberry" are used in the play, and both were considered too indecent to utter.  ::)

Having identified the "fuck" in question, I think it was completely appropriate. Bt's post was a well-deserved kick in the arse to a bunch of whining nay-sayers.

Yeah, it does come up a couple times a year, and I'm not advocating a free for all filth fest around here - what I'd like is that if someone has a problem with it, they talk to the person directly, before running off like a little prat to a mod. Ã, Sometimes I don't think people have the scrot to speak to someone if they have a problem. Ã, Clearly stated in the forum rules, it says to PM someone first before running to a MOD. Ã, I think that's fair.

(Also, I'm not saying the mods here are in anyway Nazi-ish, to use a popular description; the mods here are very good, and fair and I was contacted rather pleasently by them. Ã, I just have a problem with the class snitch running to the teacher without talking to the offender first. Ã, If you had PM'd me and I told you to swallow my salty sailors, THEN maybe a mod should be involved.)

Thanks - I just felt like a pack of wolves had descended upon the poor kid who was embarking quite finely on a project.
