Title: The Jonas Brothers sing everything..
Post by: monkey0506 on Mon 08/03/2010 17:39:00
So I made the mistake of telling my Zune software that it can overwrite existing metadata in my songs in hopes that it would correctly identify any mistakes I may have made. Instead I now am having to manually edit about 10% of my songs which have been marked now as being authored by the Jonas Brothers.

The songs range across several genres, artists, time periods, etc. but all the metadata has been replaced indicating that the songs are by the Jonas Brothers, from an unknown album in the year 2007.

Last time I ever let something automatically overwrite that info..

I would've had a heart attack just looking at that. Quite possibly one of the most oversaturated "bands" I've ever seen.

It's like having all of your music labeled as "Milli Vanilii"

Actually I don't have a single song by them in my music library. Which just makes it that much more frustrating..

And sadly my original ("gen 1") 30 GB Zune died several months ago. I've tried every means of repairing it but at this point the only solution is replacing it. When I can afford it I'd like to get a Zune HD. Looks pretty nice.

Why Zune and not iPod??

I never had any contact with a Zune, but i'm pretty happy with my iPod :)

I mean, what are Zune features?

It's probably just some wierd virus-ey thing that is meant to promote their music. Perhaps maliciously renaming your songs will get you curious and googling, and maybe buying.

It's genius really :P

The reason for Zune at the time was:

- FM radio (iPod did not have this yet)
- Preloaded with music and videos (no longer a feature)
- Wireless capabilities (were only utilized at the time to transfer songs/pictures between two Zune devices* (songs for a maximum of 3 plays), but it held potential; now it is used for wireless sync amongst other things**)
- Availability
- My mom purchased it as a Christmas present and preferred Microsoft to Apple :P

The reason for sticking with Zune is that I honestly prefer it now after having used it. I actually like the iTunes software vs. the Zune software, but as for the actual devices I prefer Zune hardware/firmware to iPod's.

And changing my songs' metadata is not going to make me any more interested in the Jonas Brothers. I think some of their songs are catchy. I think they are overhyped. And I don't have any of their music in my library. That's how it's going to stay. :P

*I'm actually not sure if this feature still exists. It had some really quirky name at the time, but I haven't been able to find definitive information on it as of late with regard to the newer hardware.
**Zune HD has internet (WiFi) capabilities.

I still have my Creative Zen Vision M (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZEN_Vision:M). I bought it about six months before I went to Brittens '07 (the Brittens podcast was recorded on it!) and I've yet to max out it's 30GB limit.

And it's been bashed around a lot, yet remains remarkably scratch free.

@OP: The Zen isn't the only one doing this. It seems the Google Ads service does as well.
