Don't you love seeing scammers get scammed? On a side note, I have to confess I got quite tickled by the "Bond-espionage" lingo that the story acquires at a certain point.

All I can say is; I really hope this is a true story! With the internet ... you just never know.
We (my father, brother and I - all eBay sellers) get these scam attempts all the time. Usually we just ignore them ... but this might be worth doing sometime. Even if it costs some green to ship, it'd be worth it.
Jeff probably was given instructions to "disappear" for awhile. If the people he duped can't find him, they will eventually lose interest in harassing him. I'm sure he'll resurface after awhile.

It seems like a true story judging from the thorough descriptions, the background story and the photos included. What triggers my personal urban-myth-alarm is in the end; "...and Jeff was never heard from again", which is a very common type of addition to urban myths, just to spice it up a bit.
Of course, if something really happened to him, there would be no telling....I mean, Leksutin has been mysteriously gone for quite some time, and we really don't know what happened to him.
It would have to be quite an elaborate hoax involving several people in that case Andail. The events as described occured in, well, real time on the SA forums. I can't be arsed to find the thread, but it's still there I believe.
I don't get it... Someone offered something and someone decided to pay for it. If the guy in London recieved something different, the scammer is the guy who sent the item, not the guy who paid for it. I would also sue Ebay for allowing this.
But I might have lost in translation, if someone can make a brief explanation to the silly spaniard...Ã, ::) Why is it a scam?
EDIT: Oh... I think I got it... The scammed tried to get the good laptop for just 500 USD using some internet trick?
Esseb, yeah I said the story itself seemed true allright, but the extra bit which states that Jeff was never heard from again sounded a bit fictional to me.
Farlander, there are services which let people who conduct business send their money/goods to them first, and then cancel the transaction if any part can't fulfill their commitment. If you set up a fake provider of this kind of service, you can make people send their stuff and then just skip paying.

Hmm, I just got scammed out of a whole 7 bucks on eBay. I was buying Down periscope on DVD for scubachic earlier last month, and i just got a note near the myebay listing stating how 'user is no longer registered".
his last three buyers have eerily similar names to his ebay name and all three have mysteriously become 'no longer a ebay registered user"
So great, I send him an email (which im sure he'll never get) stating how cool of a scammer he is to get a whole 7 bucks from me.
Let's find out his address, and send some local spies out there to take pictures of him, counting his newly earned 7 bucks.
