The Council of Judgment has determined that you, Harami, have broken the laws of Tarna by taking things belonging to others. You have shown yourself to be without honor. Do you have anything you wish to say before you are named honorless?

Fuckin’ whatever.

Then by the Judgment of the Council and the laws of Tarna, you, Harami, are now formally named honorless. So you have acted, so you shall be. The honorless one must leave the Hall. The Council of Judgment now summons the prince of Shapeir.

So is there a story or a point to this thread or should we just ignore this random outburst of "I feel like people are judging me, please feel bad for me!"

I am sorry to hear that Grim - but I don't think you're admitting to be a kleptomaniac, are you?

Construed

Nah, if you played the game you'd know nobody would talk to or offer anymore service to the guy and he was like , PLEASE HELP ME!!

Personally, I don't think multiplayer is the way to go with adventure games. Unless they involve shooting zombies in the face... ;)

You speak ill of Good Old Adventures, sir!  >:(
The fediverse needs great indie game developers! Find me there!

Wasn't there some murder mystery multiplayer game years ago? That was kinda like an adventure game.

Of course, this is the internet, so it was probably filled with people who ruined the plot every 5 minutes.

I dont know if you guys are QFG fans, but what i've come up with so far even with the lack of alot of the logic is pretty fun multiplayer and funny too :D

There are multiple threads already about multiplayer adventures. It comes up from time to time, usually when somebody discovers one of the net plugins and thinks that nobody ever tried creating a mp adventure (as opposed to nobody did it yet because it makes no sense).

My point of view is that a classic, puzzle-solving point-n-click is unsuitable for multiplayer for obvious reasons, unless people were to do it Gobliiins style where people join one of the rooms, then start solving it together at the same time.

The only alternative is to allow people to solve all the puzzles on their own while chatting which each other, which turns it into a sp game with a chat on top.

The enthusiasm for it clearly has waned in this community, do don't take it too personal.

Goddamn this talk of multiplayer puzzle games! Now I started to get ideas again!!! >:[
As if I didn't have enought projects on my mind already!

Mumbling...
So if all three players are trapped in separate rooms, which have an array of controls for each, some of which control a larger contraption, the repairing of which is the primary goal of the game, while others have specific functions inside different rooms or even across all rooms, so that players could help or accidentally hinder and harm one another. Players could communicate via a single text-based chat console located in each room, as well as sound ques that are audible to all rooms, so that if player A causes player B to come into danger, player B can send out a game-wide distress signal to get attention of other players...

Hmmmmm...

So I gather you never played Lucasfilm Games brief foray into online gaming called Club Caribe?

Grim

I've overheard ( well, read in a magazine) that the upcoming Scandinavian MMO The Secret World(made by creators of the Longest Journey) is supposed to blend elements of RPG and adventure games with a multiplayer twist... From what they say it sounds like a pretty good idea- players teaming up to solve puzzles some of which are meant to take weeks to figure out.

But let's face it, even if that works, we can't top those guys... ;) With multiplayer involved, you really need a lot of people and money to make it work. And zombies.

I was going to say, I usually play adventure games multi-player. Some weekends, I queue up a LEC or Broken Sword game on the PC connected to the big screen TV, and my wife and I tackle the tasks in tandem. She and I have different ways of thinking, so we each approach problem solving differently. We have a rule about consulting a walkthrough only once per session, and usually only when we're really, really frustrated.

We've been going through Broken Sword 2 most nights this week, and we get in a decent amount of playing time between putting the baby back to sleep / feedings. And we occasionally talk out puzzles when we're at the grocery store. It's pretty fun.

You lucky man... It seems you have to best wife in the world! Mine will only play Silent Hill with me... Which is good, because Downpour is out next week, but that's not enough... ;)

Just because point'n'click games lend themselves to being solved by multiple people behind one screen (friends and family typically), it unfortunately doesn't mean they're suitable for actual multiplayer gameplay. I haven't heard of The Secret World, I don't believe they can pull off what they promise according to you, Grim, (ie. puzzles that are solved by many different people over the course of weeks) - I really can't imagine how that would work at all. I will, of course, keep my eyes open and see what they can indeed come up with!

But this entire discussion a.) has been done before and b.) is ultimately pointless because nobody here using AGS or any other engine would actually be able to make an MMO style game. It's simply not possible unless you have a large team of highly-trained professionals and experts...

Isn't there going to be a massive problem when someone solves the puzzle and posts the solution online? - You don't have to look at it, but someone in your group might, and then they'd spoil it for everyone else.
