Title: Valentine's Day - Need web hosting!
Post by: BerserkerTails on Mon 14/02/2005 00:17:03
Okay, so here's the thing. My girlfriend live an entire province away, and so this makes Valentine's Day hard. So we're both trying frantically to come up with original gift ideas that are both romantic and funny.

I've already got her best friend delivering roses and a note from me to her tomorrow, and I've recorded a song for her that I'm going to send her tomorrow. But I still didn't think it was enough. So I've created a webpage which has articles which describe how much I love her, and cute little sprites of myself being wacky.

The thing is, I have no place to host it.

So I as wondering if you guys could help me... I know there's a topic that lists possible ideas for free webspace, but most of them are just geared towards being able to host a game for download.

What I need is a free webhosting site that has no banners, and is fairly reliable. I don't need much space, considering the webpage is only HTML and small GIFs (Probably 2-5 MBs total). I also don't need a huge amount of bandwidth or anything, just someplace that will allow me to upload all the files easily, and not have ads/banners/popups.

Oh, and I need this before tomorrow. Can anyone help me?

Not too sure, but I think you're asking the impossible if you want free hosting without banners - unless someone has a subdomain they're willing to lend you or something equally crazy.

But I'm angry and bitter about this years Valentines, anyway...

You can try www.freeprohost.com: it's free, and no ads. Reliability could be a problem...

Sitesled's nice, but takes about 24 hours or more to get approved.

Hahaha, I post an elaborate plea for help, and then find the perfect webhost on my own. Thanks again for those who offered help, either webspace or links to free webspace.

Hopefully she'll like the site... Want me to keep you guys posted on results?

Definitely. And where did you find this "perfect" web host. What's the URL?

atspace.com, it's amazing. 50 Mb of space, unlimited bandwidth, POP3 email address, FTP and HTTP uploading, no popups ads or banner ads, there's only ONE drawback...

No file over 200kb.

But hey, like I said, all I've got is htm files and GIFs. So it's perfect for me.

And she loved it by the way. And the recording I made for, she loved that too. AND she stupidly (AGAIN) believed that I had nothing else to give her. Which is why I'm sure she'll love the two surprises she gets today as well, haha.

I'm guessing they are the roses and the note.

I'm happy to hear she liked it man!
I'm also pleased to see all the people willing to help out thats great.
some (BT, Dasjoe, and myself) were even going to host the files on their own personal webspace! This community is made up of alot of nice people!

Hahah, yeah. Thank you guys SO much. Like I've said before, this is the best community I've ever been a part of. I hope you ALL had a wonderful Valentine's Day (Even people who like to call it a "Hallmark Holiday",  :P)
