What car should I get?

Hello there, fellow AGSians!

I am soon getting my driving lisence and I will, of course, need a car. My problem is though that I am on a limited budget, but I also want a car that actually look and drive good...
I have a huge thing for cabriolets and I've been thinking of the Fiat Barchetta which I have seen as low as 1250 euros, and the VW Golf cab which is neither expensive or hard to find.
But do you know of any other great cars that I might get without selling my family? My budget is around 3000 euros at the max and I love fast-looking and small cars.

I think you should go ahead and get the premium car / sell your family.

They're only holding you back at this point.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Environment-friendly and cheap to have, of course.

You don't have to buy a car only because you have a licence. I say buy a bicycle and make some use of it instead of collaborating in making holes in the sky with a car. That's what I do.

Haddas

Yeah but you're a damn dirty hippie.

Ye aI would recommend a VW Golf. They're reliable and god cars for the money.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

Andail

Only buy a car if you really need it. Owning a car costs much more than just the petrol, and if you live and spend most of your time in a city it's probably better to use public transport.

The only reason I own a car is that my job is situated so awkwardly far away from my home, so using trams and busses would take almost an hour, compared to the ten minutes it takes to drive there by car. Then again, I never use the car to drive around downtown, since there are always trafficjams and the parking costs are skyhigh, and I usually don't save any time anyway.

I have had my driver's license for about six months now, and as of yet this fact has not caused me to need a car.

Really, my suggestion (like Andail's) is to really think about why you need a car. It doesn't seem to me like you really do.

Okay, okay! ;) I get it! Cars are bad and expensive etc... But I am getting a car! The thing is that I'm being sponsored with a car that I'll have until I go into the army and it will then be sold. I'm still going between the two cars, but I would like to actually get some advice from anyone who know their cars! :)

Thanks for the actually serious post! This was the car that I were originally going for, but then I saw the Barchetta. And I can't imagine that these are the only fun, cheap cars around!

Ponch

Anything made by VW, Toyota, or Honda. If you're on a budget, then those are the manufacturers for you. The most reliable cars I ever owned were made by those companies. Plus, the prices on older, used models are reasonable and, even used, they're still dependable.

Just my two cents.

Funny thing really, we're going on a trip tomorrow to check out a Golf for my friend, he's going to pick one of three possible cars, apparently all of them VW Golfs :)

woodz

if there's a lot of car crime in your area i wouldn't consider a cabriolet.. i'd also shy away from Fiats over 5 years old.. the wiring, electronics are pretty sh*t (auto electrician: trust me!)
You can't go far wrong with a VW Golf or any Vdub for that matter.. bits can be expensive (electrical head again lol) but they are built to last.. we just sold a Seat.. whch is basiclly a VW with a cr*p body lol and the engine was fantastic, VW's TDI 1.9
If you MUST by a rag top make sure it works and fold up n down ok and it locks in place, if its hard work to get it locked down, forget it, it probably means its worn.. a very expensive item to replace

Thanks woodz and ponch! Seems like I'm going for a golf or polo. My neighborhood is really calm and quiet, so that isn't really worrying me that much :)

Pumaman

Get a Rover. I've had two and they were both really reliable!

;D

BOYD1981

if they're so reliable why did you have TWO of them?

Well, it landed on a golf then! Not a convertible after all, but I'm pretty pleased overall! :D
