I rememer reading somewhere that the main reason for Hijackers to enter your system is a safety gap in Microcrap's* Java VM.
Download the VM from Sun and you'll be a lot safer...

* I actually had a virus once that did nothing except alter the string "Microsoft" to "Microcrap" wherever it occurred... Kinda funny, that one.

Okay I'm really paranoid that I may have a dailer in my PC making this simple message cost a fortune.
My dail up number starts 147008... Now, as far as I can remember that is the normal number but it doesn't sound normal, if you understand.
Are there anyways in which I can check specifically for dailers?

Most spy- or adware killers check automatically for known "unfriendly" dialers.
Maybe you should consider changing to a service provider like AOL (*hides in his troll-cave to avoid being slapped*), there you have some more control about dialling up and besides their software sometimes has a dialler-preventer built in...

Its also worth considering that AOL adds itself to your trusted sites, so ActiveX scripts bypass security if they have AOL written on them.

I was just mentioning AOL because it was the first thing that came to my mind! I didn't want to advertise or so! Just wanted to giv an example!
