i run allsorts on a AMD 800, i use a lot of 3D software with no real problem, apart from it gets very slow with big scenes, the kids had AOE 1/2, Sims, rollercoaster tycoon, it ran Pod Racer and castrol honda 2000  great, (8meg video card) res evil2 and Half Life with no stalling, every RPG i've tryed worked, i have problems with the soundcard under DOS but i can live with that, monkey island, g knight, run fine, most of the AGS games work great, i run XP and the odd one won't work, its a case of suck it and see really, if you feel brave and can fix your own pc  use a file sharing engine, and then buy what works well

One word: DAGGERFALL

It rules and really gives you that infinite-world-with-infinite-choices, non-linear feel that a good RPG has.
I can't stress enough how much that game kicked ass.

Graphically it can't hold a candle to Fallout though.

An OLD computer at 700 mhz?!

Jesus.

Well, I'd say Ultima 7, but I suppose that'd be stone age to you.

Daggerfall is less old and also brilliant, but still probably stone age to you.

Fallout 2 is also good.
SHAWNO NEWS FLASH: Rodekill.com, not updated because I suck at animation. Long story.

One word of warning about daggerfall-it has bugs.Lotsa 'Em. It has been nicknamed buggerfall because of them.

Fallout the Original...

Is it me or do these "What is your favourite RPG" type posts appear a lot? Aren't these adventure game forums?

NWN is minimium spec 450MHz, recommended 800, it should be fine as long as you don't try to crank the graphics up to full... That's a very good game by the way, as is anything made by Bioware (Baldur's Gate I and II, Icewind Dale I and II etc.). They also made Planescape: Torment, which is probably the best RPG I've ever played...

GarageGothic

I'm well aware that this isn't what you're asking about, but I just have to say it:

QFG2 is the best RPG ever, and yes, it IS an RPG dammit, much more so than those silly old SSI and Westwood games. To computer gamers roleplaying seems to mean two things: You have a party (usually of four characters) and you have a LOT of stats visible to the player. And that misses the whole point about roleplaying, unless you come from the old school of "mazes are fun" D&D players. What roleplaying DOES mean, is that you play, even perform, a role within a piece of fiction, which is EXACTLY what adventure games allow you to do. And the game mechanics aren't supposed to be visible as rules and stats, they just are in tabletop RPGs because it's the only way to do it (unless you play freeform games).
To transfer this to a computer game, without using the CPU to hide the game mechanics is utterly absurd. Yes, to the computer everything is numbers, but I don't want to know about that. It's like playing a shoot-em-up with the debug function turned on, so you at all times could see the exact number of hitpoints of damage that a certain shot made.

Sorry, but it had to be said. I can't really recommend anything. The Diablo games suck (click'n'slash), and I doubt NWN would run on your graphics card. If you want a REALLY old game however, try Darklands, that was an exceptional game.

Who said QFG wasn't an RPG GarageGothic???

Of course it is.  But it's a hybrid of adventure/RPG.

Hunt down Planescape: Torment. If you don't mind getting utterly addicted for a couple of months, that is.

I agree about QFG2 but the all time favorite of me has to be Betrayal at Krondor. A brilliant game.

The Bard's Tale on the Amstrad CPC6128. Best RPG ever (and the only one I've ever taken the time to complete)

DUNGEON MASTER IS THE BEST COMPUTER ROLE PLAYING GAME EVER MADE:        F A C T

No. You CAN'T dispute it. Oh yeah, sure, you THINK you can. But you ACTUALLY can't. NO!! YOU CAN'T!

Nope. Don't even try. You are deluding yourself.

Although eye of the beholder 1&2 are worth a look... I guess the third one's not ALL bad either...

Kevin says: "Bard's tale". But then he's never played Dungeon Master... (which is also perhaps the bleakest game ever made as well... Carrying the corpses of your fallen friends in the failing light of your only remaining torch, chased by undead spirits, only to die by stumbling blindly into a pit... well *I* thought it was bleak...)

Gilbert

Dungeon Master is the only game which was called real time RPG and I didn't hate.

I'm enjoying Septerra Core right now. You have to be extremely stress-tolerant, though - because the amount of fighting you have to do in this game is insane. And the battle-engine has you waiting a long time (you have to charge up your attacks). But apart from that, the game is fun - with a great plot and setting.

The two Fallout games are the best RPG's I've ever played. They do everything right. So if you haven't tried fallout 2 yet, give that one a go. It's definately as good, if not better, than the first.

Also, I've always meanth to finish Dark Heart of Uukrul, which is a lot of fun to play, and seems really deep - but I always die too much and give up. But if you're more 'hardcore' than I am, you might like this one a lot. (U can download it off the underdogs. It's really small too)
Those who can, do, and those who can't brag about how they do it at least fifty times a day somewhere on the internet.

Dark Heary of UUkrl!

* Gilbot V7000a just remembered he had bought this game.

Now where did I put the manual?
