Title: Windows XP won't let me have fun.
Post by: rodekill on Wed 11/08/2004 06:11:19
I'm trying to install CMI, and I'm getting the following error:

The BTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
XS:d712 etc... more number and crap that mean nothing.

For fun I slapped Grim Fandango in and I'm getting the same issues.

Help me AGS community, you're my only... you know... hope.

Did you try checking out the stuff over at the quick and easy site? http://quick.mixnmojo.com/downloads.shtml#cmi-launcher

Other than than, there could be something funky that is specific to your computer. Sorry.

Failing that, ScummVM reports 80% compatibility with CoMI with only minor glitches. Sadly though the awesome save and menu screen is ditched in favour of the MI2 one. It works though.

Yeah, I have the launcher. My problem is that I can even install the game in the first place.
Damn you, computer. Damn you.

Have you tried to set compatibility to windows 95/98 before you install?
