7 Days a Skeptic Bug - Monster won't follow

I have a bug that prevents me from passing 7 Days a Skeptic, neither the Captain or John Dafoe will follow me into the cargo hold or even the airlock even if they have been following me through the reactor room. I can stand in the cargo hold or with the eva suit on by the right switch and leave the game on overnight and the monster will still not appear. I've tried many many times. If he doesn't appear, I can't go outside and finish the game.

Has anybody encountered this before? Am I doing something wrong?
