I got the stick, key, opened the gate, got the shiny thing from the ground, and the flask.....
I got to the stairs...but now I am stuck! Can someone help? It doesn't end there does it?

No, it doesn't end there. You will know when the game is over. But, you're on the right track, you just need to explore a bit more.

Go to the area where you found the "stick". Walk towards the lower-right part of that room and you will find a big "thorn bush". You will need to find a way to get past this bush to continue.  From what you told me of the items you have, you should have everything you need to find a way to get past the thorn-bush.

Flask: Look carefully around the main "bridge" area.Ã,  Ã, 
The "shiny thing": walk past bridge area and find the place with the old dead-looking tree. keep exploring around the path of this area, and you'll here a "Scream" for a moment and might see some "figure" appear briefly. Where that "figure" appears (near an old dead-looking tree) you might now notice a "glimmer" of something shiny on the ground.

Charly: You've got the right idea. The cat is a bit "shy", so give your gift to it, then leave that area and return there after a moment and perhaps something else you need will be revealed to you.

Can you give me a clue as to where to find the thing you give to the cat?

Desi: Find the area with the stairs ( the stairs with the red-stain on it), go up them and then inside doorway and explore around the rooms inside.
